Yep. I bought mine about a year ago for around $130-140. Recently there have been some great prices. If you're patient you can find it for a really good price. It just makes it a potential more attractive option due to its much lower price than the other headphones.

AD742 does come with the original D10 in the kit. Nope - the difference is not night and day, but from my listening the base has somewhat longer decay and slightly warmer touch. My basshead friend prefer this chip in the buffer most. However he is after quantity, not quality.

I've had the M80 a couple days now and will add impressions soon. It does a lot of things right, but it isn't a knockout winner by any means.

Thanks for the review. As a ESW9A owner, would wish to see how it compares to top tier portables mentioned. Also addition of ESW10JPN would be nice.

I used to have an esw9a... best I could do would be to offer up notes from memory. The ESW10 is way beyond my budget. If people want to lend me gear to review, I'd be happy to do so provided the shipping isn't prohibitive (keeping in mind that I live in Canada).

My Beyer DT 1350s came today.  Will certainly fit in my PC backpack nicely.  Bought them mainly for travel.  Will be interesting to see how an iPod Classic drives them.

Waaaay from memory - I owned the ESW10jpn a couple of years ago.  Treble was a bit brighter with more sparkle than the DT1350's (which I own now), the bass did not go as deep, but had similar punch, the mids were wonderful, with a bit more warmth and color than the DT1350's.  The ESW10jpn and my departed denon D7000's are the most beautiful stock headphones I have had the pleasure to see.  Interestingly, that is why they left.  They were just south of $600 used, and I hated to break them out for fear of marring them.
 
My short take on the esw10jpn:
Beautiful to behold
beautiful to hear
while beautifully built, did not feel like $600 headphones should
Easy to drive
pretty comfy up to the 2.5 hour mark or so
 
The DT1350's
Better in some ways (than the esw10jpn)
More accurate
a bit less warmth
Better bass depth
Mids are golden to me
I'm not afraid to take them to work and use them
comfy up to the 30 minute mark... (ok, not quite that bad, truly 1.5 hours maybe)
 
Remember - pulling from long term memory, so definitely take my comments with a grain of salt.
