I expect there to be differences in SQ for sure. I mean the $1100 difference in price is now basically down to SQ, all else being more or less equal.

For me the tonality will be most important; will they keep it slightly fuller and warmer like the current R6 Pro, or go a touch cooler and airier like the R8.

Also, since this will be the fastest and most up-to-date DAP on the market (along with the R8) it'll be interesting to see if it can challenge the likes of the Cayin N6ii and FiiO M15 in the ~$1200 price bracket.
Don't forget the Ibasso DX300, yet to see the specs on it though.

Btw, I do find the R8 warm neutral on its own, and even Alex pointed it out in the review. It's very clear when I use the BX2 Plus from the Bal out then the sound becomes quite wide, airy and very transparent.

Yeah that’s the main thing that irked me, main thing I like about Hiby stuff is their UI, software and general device speed will always be amongst the best. New R6 looks to have everything I like about the R8 at close to 1/3 it’s price, not to mention the convenience of size for portability.

But I guess this is how DAPs go, there will always be something new what’s looks like every quarter of the year now lol.

few words, do not let such comments deter u from getting this awesome dap
I have a copper Sp2k and no the firmware has not changed the sound
Thanks guys! Will consider buying a used one. I think I just can’t justify giving out so much money for something that probably will be succeeded next year or so ;-)

I'm surprised they went as far as matching the R8's hardware specs, but then again, even these high-end DAPs are using 2017 hardware, so it's not much of a cost jump for them. Must've bought in bulk too, so they need to use it somewhere, and not too many people are going to fork out $1800 for a DAP.

You can get really, really good deals on a used SP2K - I think @WayneWoondirts had his up for sale for 2050 euros or something of the sort - not sure if his is still around

Rule #1: never tell your wife anything.
Rule #2: if in doubt, see rule #1.
Rule #3: don't come here crying if you don't follow rules 1 and 2.

Full new R6 details announced. Looks like it might come in closer to $800 at launch. Some key upgrades over the R6 Pro.

Can someone please explain noise floor and uvrms please? For 4.4bal R8 is listed at 8.4uvrms, R6 Pro is 5uvrms and the new R6 is 3.6uvrms. I assume lower is better, so the new R6 would have the lowest noise floor of the higher-end HiBy DAPs?

I like that they are following the design language of the R8. Love continuity within a brand and I find that design quite appealing.

Buy the stuff first, find an explanation later. I have done it since almost 10 years now. Still married and happy. If you manage the budget of the family it’s even easier. As long as the holidays, the taxes, the unexpected bills (*cough*) and the mortgage are paid, you are almost safe
