My current favourite portable set-up.   FAD Piano Forte IX with Portaphile 627 + Toxic Cable LOD + Ipod Nano.

I love my Toxic LOD....How are the FAD's? I have not had the chance to try them.

I suppose so. I think thats what frequency responce graphs are for, but they mean nothing to me as I dont know how to read / interpret the information.

Loved the Toxic LOD as well, really make a difference.   The FAD's kind of acquired taste and due to lack of isolation, this is more for quite places.

They joy of open HP's...Same with my HD650's.

Yes - as far as I can tell. It seems to be about as loud as the 6G model, which itself was an improvement on previous Nanos.
 
I haven't tried out the 'earpods' yet  Edit: I have now and, while they're better than Apple's previous buds, they're nothing great. I had to turn the iPod volume way up to get decent volume out of them..Plus, like all earbuds they leak sound.
