He has not. He looks forward to battle against the Orthodome.

Interesting development in Fostex land here at the F2D headphonopticum. I just got T50 and they have......[drum roll] bass. Not headshaking bass but HP50S or YH-1 level bass, even deeper. Just to give you an idea the bass is about on par with DT880. They also look a bit different from the T50 pics I seen so far.

This is the pic in the ortho thread:

This is from Fostex webpage:

This is how my pair looks:

FostexT50_pads.jpg

Pads look to be different, flatter it seems and made from smooth leather like material, as well as material covering the front of the driver. I think we might have another version, with some bass......

More impressions as I continue to listen to them, so far they sound kinda like T20 with a bit leaner sound and slight mids coloration that T20 did not have, the coloration is a bit reminiscent of K340

Wow, maybe customers complained, eh? Yep, the pads sure do look different. What else might be changed?

Open 'em up and let's see what's inside.

Which T20 do they sound like? Stock T20v2?

.

Yes, T20v2 stock, but with better extension on top.

Woo, lots of cool info going on here. I did read that the newest Fostxes had an internal reworking so it's not surprising they are different. Maybe they're figuring out again that SQ actually does matter

Kabeer, your phones work as expected and there is a pamphlet and I've scenned it for the Wiki. Currently these are huge and I'll let Foust shrink these to Wiki size.

Walt, glad they arrived safely. Feel free to tell us they suck and why if you don't like them. I'm all about learning

Looks to be the same. No foam and no damping what so ever, that's a shame. Did your pair have these little rubber legs to fight vibrations? Really neat idea if you ask me.
FostexT50_driver_cup.jpg

I modded them a bit now bass is a bit less but very tight and transients are great. Sound stage closed a bit, but became more focused. I am still amazed what a little foam and cotton balls can do.

FostexT50_mod.jpg

Not bad at all, still need to listen but I do like what I hear.

More pics here.

Ooh, current generation T50. Keep us updated on the sound, I'm wondering whether or not I should try the current generation iterations of the Fostexen. Of course, I'm getting rather angry with Fostex for not providing any form of decent customer service, so maybe I'll just stay way altogether.

Faust2D,
I have the same version of T50RP. I think it is an ordinary version. Did you remove native damper?
Fostex T-50RP has quite enough of mid-bass but not much of lower bass. Moreover T 50RP is not very detailed cans because of the pit in the upper mid-range. In general, it is an interesting headphone. Especially, in professional using-mastering, recording of vocals and so on. After mod they can sound good for listening to music at home.

Yeah, well I found out the yh2 and yh3 are def' different drivers going by the specs.

I also had another brain fart today and came up with the deep cup SFI. Deep as in the driver is nearly an inch away from the ear now. Based on my makeshift ear pad testing, it seems like they benefit from a deep but tightly sealing pad arrangement so I set to it to make some cup spacers, lined with thick sealing foam and an ear pad on top of that.

Gives a pretty unique listening experience.
