Hi guys,

I have just bought an iPod Classic 7th Gen 160GB, Model A1238, Part nr MC293LL/A

I would like to Rockbox it as most of my music is in flac format and Apple's stock firmware does not support it ;(

I was wondering if some of you with this setup could advise me on what kind of battery life should I expect after installing Rockbox on my brand new iPod Classic 7th Gen 160GB?

Thanks,

Hey guys, was looking from some advice. So I have two CF - SD Card adaptors. Both have a 128GB SD Card in them. Once is a rockboxed version of my library, and the other is an apple OF version of my library.

Im trying to get used to Rockbox but have found some things I don't like about Rockbox.

1st, is a lof of the small font. I use the iMod in my car quite frequently. For this I have found that Drivebox theme works, well, however I really perfer a black background. Would that help save battery as opposed to a white background?

So far my favorite theme I've found is Terminal, which I love for the uniqueness. But it is not so great for the car. \

I also like the themes which show info about the track being played. Info like the resolution, or kbps.

I don't know much about creating my own themse, so I may give that a try, but really don't have to much time to try it out. So with that said does anyone have a list of thier favorite themes? Also why is it your favorite theme? What do you like?

Another thing that I need help with. When I remove one CF-SD adaptor with SD card, and swap the other in (Rockbox version vs. Apple version) Its very difficult to get the iPod to read the SD card correctly. I have to restart a few times, disconnect the battery, ect. Just mess with it and eventually it will read the card. Is there a trick to wiping/resetting the iPod? I've tried the reset in the diagnostics menu, but that just seems to restart the iPod.

Is there any trick to swapping out the iPods drive without such hassles?

I am using the CF-SD adaptor and SD card from my 4th Gen monochrome iPod until I get my new logic board in for the 4th gen iPod. That thing is so old and still in mint condition and dispite my battery swaps, can get it to charge, so Im guessing the issue is the board. But thats a whole other topic :p lol

Hello everyone.

I am a proud owner of an iPod Video 5.5 Gen and I have a few questions that I don't believe have been asked before.

One thing I'd Like to find out; Is there an external LOD amp that allows charging of the iPod when in use?  Which external amps provide the strongest bass output and do they have EQ's built in?

I'd also like to know the best way to go about creating a 480GB iPod that will be compatible with Rockbox and have the best sub bass while also providing a nice clean treble as well.  I'm planning on buying beats headphones because they're the only high end headphones I've experienced that can literally make my ears vibrate when listening to music rich in tones around 10-80hz.  Feel free to make other recommendations; I listen to almost all music which is why I want 480 Gigs of space.  All my files are mp3 320kbps so I don't thing messing with the logic boards circuitry is necessary because I would most likely not notice a difference.

On a related note, my iPod frequently lags and sometimes skips during file browsing and playback.  Is this due to the old style spinning drive within or another issue?

Thank you to all the people involved in this project.  You have made my dream come true.  I can now carry the majority of my library in my pocket and enjoy nice, clean sounding audio without clipping and distortion except for the very low end bass which I prefer to increase because I find the vibration pleasant which is why I plan to buy the SubPac M1 backpack subwoofer.

@chabotc95, take the advice given above. It's legit advice. As far as amps, I would recommend the Fiio E17. It has the ability to equalize. And it's a good amp. I use it with my iMod when I'm not using my Leckerton UHA 6S.MKII

The fact that the Fiio E17 had an equalizer was what attracted me to it. I prefer a bump in treble. Son your not modding the iPods circuitry I'd recommend the standard Fiio L9 LOD. See the bottom pics. My ipod is using an ALO LOD due to the iMod that LOD had built in caps which you don't need.

The bass and treble go from -10 to +10 but only move in increments of 2. So from 0 to 10 is really only 5 moves but it's still a great amp for equalizing. Honestly I don't know and other amp with an equalizer like it.

Good luck with your project! Let us know how it goes and show some pics!

Also as far as your question about an LOD which would allow charging, you may be looking for something like the Fiio L11 LOD connector. It has a mini USB for charging and you would need a real short 3.5mm-3.5mm cable. It may come with one. If you search online for charging LOD or something you'll see some custom made ones. But the Fiio should suit your needs I think.'

Last thing, This stuff works awesome for holding your Fiio E17 (or any amp) to your iPod if you don't want the rubber bands. I put it on the back of my E17 and my iMods case. Works great and I can separate them if need be. I like rubber bands to use as bumpers to protect my gear from scratches when its laying on the table.

And since I'm posting a bunch of pics, here is one of my iMod as I've been using it the last few days.

I seriously need to step up my IEM game. I'm using Bose IE2 and they seem veiled or too bass heavy for me. I'm going to start looking for good clear crisp IEMs. I think I'm going to set my budget at $500-$600. I need something that makes my music extremely clear. The Bose IE2 is just super great for working out and running. They are comfortable and never had them slip out when sweaty.

Very straightforward and incredibly helpful.  I'd expect nothing less from someone engaged in this thread and in the Head-Fi community.  Thanks Dr.!

Any EQ advice to achieve a nice powerful bass delivery?  I've tried messing with the q values and the filters and stuff and I've seemed to come to a decent result.  I will post a screenshot of my configuration when I have time.

Gen7 does not support msata with this config. We are hoping Tarkan's new adapter will address this issue.
