Because of this, the HD518 is going off my list. ATH-AD700X vs Grado SR80e it now is!

We are still talking about "The Veil"? XD

Since when does a bright headphone like HD598 have a veil? lol

Only Sennheiser that deserved that tag was the earlier productions of HD650. The newer ones don't even have it.

Indeed. There is no veil. Not anymore.

HD800 is an exception to the Sennheiser house sound...

HD558, HD598, HD600, and HD650 all have what is known as the "Sennheiser Veil" and in general are laid back sounding.

EDIT: Also, Senny has made some headphones for the consumer market like the Urbanite that don't have it. Their open backs all have generally had it though except the HD800. (haven't tried the HD700 so I dunno about that one.)

Judging from this statement, I have my doubts you tried any of the mentioned.

My HD650s only had a slight veil when using the magni, once I moved to the asgard 2 and then to the taboo mkIII there was no longer a veil. They have been in a box ever since I got the HD800's, though.

That's a mistake. There is no veil, it's just not overly bright. That's why we have the special icon, it's beating a dead horse. Discussed to death.

I replied to your inaccurate, non experienced based statement so technically you deviated the direction of the thread.  Just wanted to know under what environment you heard the said headphones, source, amp and etc. Instead I got a GIF as a response.
no. You said you doubted I've heard them. And I said k and proceeded to ignore the comment.

Well, so far, reactions from non-audiophiles have been pretty good towards me. Maybe because they dont fancy me a true audiophile.
I own a old HD280pro and HD650, and a Mayflower O2/Odac special edition.
My portable headphone is a bluetooth MM100, which has some nice sound, but obviously cant compare to a nice pair of headphones.
Havent heard any negative responses so far.
