Noble Audio - the Wizard returns!

I'd also be interested to see a pair of these with fiddleback sycamore:

or birdseye maple:

and although more 2-dimensional in appearance, burr oak or burr elm have a beauty of their own.

As John will know, there are so many beautiful timbers to choose from, in the world. It's not always viable to do the figure of timber justice on something so tiny as a CIEM faceplate, though. For example, I love flame mahogany, because it is so 3-dimensionally lustrous (I've used it many times on traditional furniture), but unfortunately, a CIEM faceplate would really be too small to demonstrate it to full effect.

I reckon one might get a worthwhile result, in terms of 3-dimensional lustre, with fiddleback sycamore, though, since it is a bit more pronounced in it's figuration, over a smaller area.

For anyone who hasn't seen these in real life, just let me assure you that you can never truly appreciate their beautiful 3-dimensional lustre from a 2-dimensional photograph. One needs to hold them in the hand and vary the angle of the light to appreciate how their lustre 'moves'.

I've always been a big fan of amboyna, and thoroughly appreciate the amboyna faceplates already posted!

I love how this whole post is about timber.

And that fiddleback sycamore is darn pretty.

I've been around these forums long enough to know that The Wizard always has something up his sleeve...

I have been contemplateing the above for a long time....   and put it into practice

And the result was great

But recently I woke up thinking

"What If....."

and "if it could be done....."

So I called up

He said what ever parts we needed, he would source them

So then I called

To see if he thought it could be done

He said

So, I got the parts

Right now I'm listening to the album 10.000 Days by Tool. DX50 -> PB2 -> K10 (balanced). The resultant combination of detail retrival, soundstage, layering and impact is just simply staggering. In my review of the K10 I mentioned that what impressed me the most was how those 10 drivers play together in perfect unison as one perfect driver. I think their ability to scale might be taking that top spot soon. They sound good straight out of my phone or laptop, but then they just keep getting better as you improve the chain.

I spoke with John back in 2012 about using Birdseye maple, at the time he stated the woods he uses are regional, so only woods from the Pacific Rim.

Pretty much the case, it certainly was when I began, i would purchase wooden items from night markets. I would buy big spoons and other trinkets made out Siamese rosewood and cut them down to size.

In fact the 8 driver made for average joe was made from a spoon that I found at a mall in Bangkok

And when he listens to them he is reminded that there is no spoon.
