Tips are everything when it comes to universals. I get a lot of practice with them doing the shows. I had one guy at CanJam Socal that I could tell he wasn't happy. When talking to him he said there wasn't any bass in the Khan, I knew this was a tip issue. After putting in the white memory foam tips in the correct size, I saw the smile come alive. It took 3 or 4 tries with different tips and sizes.

It can never be over emphasized how important tips are. And........you don’t know what you don’t know...........till you finally DO know. It’s as you don’t learn what your missing till you hear it. If we could do the whole thing backwards like hear a perfect CIEM then know what to search for sound expectation wise, with a universal IEM. Lol

I must have been a special case, with trying and trying? But in the end I found it. I hope to keep my Encore IEMs my whole life?

I'm annoyed with tips. My right ear has this curve right at the start and then gets narrow. Trying to find tips for that is almost impossible (tried spinfit, no thanks :frowning2: ) Any suggestions? Tried customs and they have not been all that successful for me either really :frowning2:

With my Katanas, I get the best combination of comfort/isolation and sound quality using Spiral Dots. I still have to find the right size within the Spirals. Sometimes, I feel I need to use M on one ear and L on the other.

I’m almost embarrassed at describing my lack of success since the last quarter of 2017. But I’m in this for the long haul and tend to look at stuff more long term. Meaning if I reach success it’s irrelevant what the time frame was. Also note, ears change so what didn’t work in the past as far as a tip goes can still work in the future. But I’m using the L Sony Silicone Tips. I have had luck with the old Sony Hybrid Tips, and the Triple Comfort.....but never success like this. The above pictures also show the grey Triple Comforts as well as the clear Silicone Tips. In my history Spinfits are bad. They even seemed to become weak after use? All I can say is don’t give up as the rewards are obtainable!

Cheers!

Keep? Sure, but that's not a very good head-fi attitude, you need to buy everything else.

If you don’t see me post here anymore don’t worry......... Encores and me are riding off into the sunset. :)

Seems because of the curve in my ear, a large tip still won't do it. Those sony's look interesting. Any idea where to order them from? In the uk.

Picked up a pair of used K10U to try out. I’ve heard good things. Need something somewhat balanced and easy going with all genres and for commuting:

Edit: these are really pleasant and easy sounding. Really like them. Excellent detail and separation while remaining extremely coherent, smooth and musical.

Custom Khans....do I or do I not. I'm annoyed I had to sell the universals because my left ear canal is a PITA to work with.
