Oh boy oh boy oh boy. I hope this thing looks as good (maybe even better than!) the edition 8. I guess I'm holding off on looking into the Sig DJs now. Anyone know when we are going to get first pics of these new cans?
If Ultrasone manages to come up with a SigPro (or SigDJ even) sound in an Edition 8 design, I'd be all over it. I've always liked the design of the Ed8LE when I had it - weight, size, comfort.

It would be the perfect headphone. Except for the price of course.................
The only thing I wish the Edition 8 had was more bass. Not that it's super bass light but after listening to Pro 900's for six months now, THAT is my standard (as well as having four Denon's..............lol).
The Sig Pro is taking most of my headphone listening time up these days. Awesome sound. After a (proper) stretch, which I was afraid of doing the first time I owned these, it really performs on the comfort front of things too.
I just hope they do something about the way two headphones of the same model can sound pretty different. I don't think I've documented my experience with this, so I may as well now
Ultrasone ed8 5 pairs. 3 sounds
The pair I owned had a very forward midrange with a smallish soundstage. Attacking and with a decent (though not bloated) level of bass. I've heard 4 others, 3 of which sounded different to mine. One guy at the last London headfi meet had a well used ed8's that were, errrr, not that great at all. The midrange was thinnish, sharp and the headphone genuinely lacked bass. Another ed8, again a ruthenium, had a proper v shaped sound signature. Big bass, sharp highs and a recessed midrange. Obviously I heard these from the same source and music.
Ultrasone Sig Pro 3 pairs. 1 sound
I've had these twice and the ones I have now sound exactly like the ones out for demo at London's Harrods department store. I expected a difference, almost feeling like there should be, but no. Contrary to AnakChan's experience huh - I remember you saying that you experienced differences in sound with two pairs of these.
Ultrasone Sig DJ 2 pairs. 2 sounds
Unfortunately, this time I ended with the dud. The difference here was pronounced and much more so than others mentioned above, believe me. I burned these in for over 400hrs with a sustained loop of pink noise. After 400hrs only the highs smoothed, perhaps. Minimal changes. I compared this directly to a Sig DJ out for demoing in Selfridges london deparment store and they sounded a lot better. Less bloated bass, of less quantity and more in balance with the lower midrange. The main difference was the tone where the Selfridges' one had a terrifically natural tone and mine sounded...bad. It was hard to believe they were the same headphone.
Ultrasone won't be doing themselves any favours if the ed5 just adds to this list - the hate it / love it distribution of opinions won't change I guess. But me, I literally can't wait to hear an Ultrasone Edition 5!!

The above and its ability to isolate sound (both ways) making it a great portable headphone (as long as you are not afraid of the occasional mishap).
To me they sound very natural, although some disagree with this statement. The bass and treble are not exaggerated.
I am thinking about the TH900 as a companion to my Ed8 because of its "fun" sound but the non-portability (?) of it has me holding on making the purchase. If it is possible to get the TH900 sound into the Ed8 body, I would be all over it. But would it be possible to get such a sound on a HP that isolates so well?

The ED9s were rather like this, but a bit more sterile-sounding, especially if they were re-cabled and better damped to deal with the harshness in the treble.

I personally think it's impossible to get the TH-900 sound in an Ed8 design 'cos the beauty in the TH-900's sound is partly attributed that it leaks and that it doesn't isolate. If the TH-900 isolated, it's signature would change primarily in the staging and the bass control would be my guess.
