Welcome to the forum! IEM's are great for travel but my advice would be to invest in an open-back 'phone like Senn's HD650 or perhaps a HiFiMAN 400s for home listening, but none of these will perform well without a quality DAC/amp especially if you're a "bass head".  What are you driving your collection of headphones right now? If you're using the audio out on your computer you will never get to where you want be fidelity-wise. Even higher quality sound cards produce less than average sound and are polluted with all the RFI produced by all the semi-conductors in your computer. Maybe try an Audioquest Dragonfly USB DAC/amp that start around $100 and top out at $200. Most online shops offer full refunds if it doesn't float your boat.

Thanks, happy to be here. I use a Sound Blaster E1 for my portable amp, and for home I use either a Sound Blaster Omni or an Asus Xonar U7 depending whether I'm listening to music or watching a movie. I've stayed away from open back just because I'm usually awake later than the wife and kids and don't want my jam sessions waking anyone up, lol.

Hello there,

this is my first post.

I started becoming audiophile only in 2014,
but have been actively spending a big part of my free-time and money since then
(I am lucky to have a good income and to be at stage of life where you have paid off your house
and your kids don't cost too much so I can expend money)

My best portable equipment is: AK240 + JH Harvey Layla
(I hope to purchase the Shure KSE 1500 some time)
(I also have : Final Audio Piano Forte IX, VIII, Heaven VII and VIII, AKG K3003, Sennheiser IE800 etc.)
(I actually did not  buy Heaven in-ears  for me, but one for my wife, and the other one for my oldest daughter,)

My best headphones are the Final Audio Sonorous X, VIII, MrsSpeakers Ether C, Sennheiser HD800, AKG K812, OPPO PM2, PM3.

my home desktop equipment is :
Foobar2000 -> ifi Mercury --> Pioneer U-05  -->  ifi Ican Pro. I also have the ifi IDSD micro and ifi purifier USB 3.0
I don't have a TOTL desktop DAC, I am thinking of purchasing the Shiit Yggdrasil of Naim V1 ????

I listen to most kinds of music, from gregorian to metal, except I don't like "classic" jazz and blues.

In bed I will mainly listen to sacred music on AK240 --> Sonorous X (or Piano Forte) and fall asleep in paradise...

Bluetooth :
When doing chores at home and DIY I will listen to hard rock, trance, or metal over bluetooth.
At my work (office)  I listen over bluetooth to atmospheric metal as a background to cover up voices when it is not quiet.
(BT headphones : Sennheiser Momentum 2 Wireless overhear, AKG K845BT, AKG Y50BT,
connected to my Samsung Note 3 over BT). I gave my Zik Parrot 2 to my wife.

At my home desk, I listen to many kinds of music, mainly with the HD800, K812, Sonorous VIII and Ether C.

I rip my CDs or download them and put them on Synology NAS.
For wired access to the NAS when I am lying on my bed, I am thinking of buying a small integrated network amp
like the TEAC NT-503 (using the same DAC as Astell and Kern), to put next to my bed.

I check out Tyll Hertsen Innerfidelity,  various audio forums in different languages,
and the German magazines Stereoplay and Audio.
This is the first audio forum I am joining.
I have been following the discussion on the Elear and Utopia with the highest interest but at this point I don t have the proper DAC and possibly amp to match the Utopia.

Cheers
bidn

I'm just signing in for the first time as well. I remember buying the original Walkman from a guy at college. It totally blew my mind at the time (1981). Like all Sony innovations, the first one was built like a tank and had incredible sound. I just prefer something smaller and lighter now, and alway preferred good earphones over so-so speakers.

Yo! I'm just going through my headphone addiction phase so I thought I'd sign up here to discuss different brands and models as well as some technical audio equipment such as DACs and AMPs. Anyways, one of the requirements was to introduce myself first for moderator approval so here I am. Stamp me up, mod!

Hi everyone,

I have been lurking this forum for a while. I am a fan of music but I would not qualify myself as an audiophile. I recently got a Fiio X3 II to replace complement my Ipod video (5g) and soon after I began my search for new iem.

I currently have a pair of Triplefi 10 with the original cable which still sounds good but I am a bit tired of the cable (microphonics) and I do not find them confortable wearing them for extended periods of time.

I recently bought a pair of Brainwavz S1 for my significant other who is used to "disposable" earphones but I wanted to give her something more. Trying the S1, I find that they are way more comfortable than my TF10 but the I still like the sound of the TF10 better (probably too much bass).

After some research (iems have evolved a lot since the TF10 and frankly I was a bit lost with all the new offerings), I finally ended up pre-ordering the Trinity PM6 (and contemplating ordering a pair of PM4 as well). I was about to get a pair of Westone W40 (might be a bit dated and expensive vs the current offering) or a pair of MusicMaker Shockwave III (a bit worried about QA and support) but I finally settled on the PM6 due to the impressive specs, support from the mfg, company philosophy, great feedback from head-fi and the great pre-order price.

Hoping to spend a bit of time on here! Cheers

I just realize I've never actually posted in this introduction thread despite lurking here at head-fi for almost two years now.

My first pair of 'real' headphone is the Philips SHP8900 bought in 2009 which was a real step-up from the regular $10 headphones and started me down this road.
Six month later, I upgraded to the Sennheiser HD555, because that seemed like the obvious choice from SHP8900. Unfortunately I didn't like the sound signature at all, it was sold after only a month of listening and I haven't own any Sennheiser headphone ever since.
Opting for a more engaging sound, I bought the Alessandro MS-1 and my oh my was I impressed. I still missed its sound to this day.
After that I joined the Beyerdynamics family with DT880 in 2011 and eventually T1 in 2015.

I'm currently eyeing MrSpeakers Ether Flow, Hifiman HE1000 and mostly the Focal Utopia, just waiting for more reviews before I jump on board. (and also waiting before I could sell my Beyerdynamics T1)

Hi, my name is Anton and I am seriously into music.
Not really much experience in the portable/headphone side until visiting CanJam London.
I had a fantastic time and listened to some amazing products. The experience has made me re-evaluate my hifi direction.
I already own the Sony ZX2 & B&W P7 for on the go use.
So, already placed an order for a Cavalli Liquid Carbon and will be purchasing Mr.Speakers Ether Flow Open when available in the UK.
Now need to decide whether its a Chord Mojo or Hugo to act as the DAC. I listened to both but thinking of future amps too

This forum is great for information and the members are really helpful too.

I fell in love with Cavalli Audio at CanJam. How I wish I knew about this company a few years ago!

All the best

The Ether Flow are amazing if you haven't listened already. So comfortable and the sound produced is to die for. Good Luck with your hunting.

Hi,

I just joined this forum after lurking for a couple of years. I've had a few pieces of serious (??) gear like Q jays, Phonics, Oppo PM3, Oppo HA1. Interested to participate in some of the threads which is why I finally signed up for an account.
