Hey how long would you say the burn in on these are? I swear that they keep sounding better every time I hear them, and they probably have around 300 hours on them now. Probably only 100 at moderate to high volumes, but still.

Just keeps getting better.

Actual burn in? Couple of hours. Went through a dozen of portapro drivers and they all sounded kinda foggy out of the box. But only for the first few hours.

Precived burn in? Forever. Or untill the driver starts to rattle and you try to fix it, breaking it in the prosess and end up getting a new pair from Koss. Which is kinda forever, too.

The more these things break in, the better they sound. Incredible headphones for the cost. I simply can't believe how good they sound for the 26.49 USD I paid for them to boot. Incredible....

Heh,
That was a LONG Time ago in the MP3 player world. I got what I believe was the first player with a Hard drive. I believe it was a PB Jukebox or something like that. HUGE by today's standards. It ran Linux embedded. Came with the Porta Pros. This was around 2000 or 2001 or so. I had no idea until recently that they were "worth" anything. I always thought they sounded good though. Took them out of a drawer to use to test some equipment I had just bought. Didn't want to fire it up with HD650s or GS100s or something in it. Was going to throw them away because the cushions had melted. Then saw all these PortPro threads and said Dang, glad they didn't end up in the Trash!

Lol, you never know what treasures might be bundled with something. When I got some graphics card a long time ago, it came with The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It's probably my favourite game of all time, and I only played it because it came free with the graphics card.

Well, here's how I discovered they were worth something. I read the 'Zero Dac destroyed my Senn 650s thread" Basically a story about a guy who bought a Zero, plugged in his HD650s and it smoked them.

After "ralphing" in the trashcan for a while, I decided I needed some cheap test phones. I looked around and found the Koss. The pads had melted so I figured what the hell. I used them to test new "Chinese" stuff I've been buying lately.

Then I started wondering about putting new pads on them. Did a search and found they had a "Cult Following"!

So, you're right, the MP3 player is gone. It's kinda like the Cap'n Crunch whistle was worth a lot more than the cereal, especially if you had a penchant for hacking phone systems!

Does the Portapro have as much midrange body and bass presence as the KSC-35? The KSC-75 sucks due to its lack of body and bass, but my KSC-35 has a channel imbalance (left phone louder than the right).

edited to add: alright, the Portapro is bassy. Buying now.

edit 2: decided against purchasing and canceled; I can still enjoy the KSC-35 even with the channel problem, and I read something about the Portapro not doing well with deeper vocals, which indicates to me that the Portapro is lacking the body of the KSC-35.

my cat5 recabled/kramer modded pros are very nice to listen to. i might try to recable them again and do a better job with better wires, but right now i am really digging their sound. ESPECIALLY with bands such as radiohead or the flaming lips. actually, they sound good with nearly everything!
