I'll be darned...

Right! Yes as others have mentioned it's a tiny bit noisy in quiet settings but I use my pretty much exclusively while in Public spaces so I've no qualms with it at all

My wife really likes the Parts Express headband for her Koss. I'll have to take those drivers, with dongle, off the stock headband and put them on the Parts Express for her!

Sounds like an awesome project! If you get a chance to take/upload some pics please do so

It pretty basic and lightweight. Not much to them.

Just like the ksc75 which can be put on the parts express headband, can the porta pro be done too? On the same parts express band? While replacing the pads on the porta pro I noticed it seems to be similar, but not completely sure and wanted to check.

I am pretty sure they all have the same interface.

If you own more than one of these Koss PortaPro/SportaPro KPH30i KSC75 KSC35 KTXPRO1, it will be nice to hear what your liking order is (and why if possible) and which one you grab the most often from them. I have all of them except the ksc35 (the sporta pro is on the way).

My liking order *as of now* seems to be this (most liked at number 1 spot).
1. ktxpro1
2. portapro
3. ksc75
4. kph30i

ksc75 - weakest bass of all, but quite detailed (most bang for the buck)
portapro - weakest treble of all, but most non-fatiguing and "warmest", a very satisfying good amount of tight/nice low end bass at the same time not becoming too boomy.
ktxpro1 - good detail like ksc75 but with a better low end, open grill type (may be makes it even more open). seems the most balanced of all as of this writing to me.
kph30i - as bassy as the portapro (may be sometimes it feels even more boomier than than the ppro, which is contrary to what it actually is in frequency response charts), and has plenty of sparkle on the high end too (which is absent in the porta pro).

1. Porta Pro (Yaxi pads, Parts Express headband, custom strap) - cleans up the low end and better extension at both ends, adds more intimate vocals, slightly more open sounding/more separation, and a tad bit more treble. MUCH more comfortable than stock as well.

2. KSC75 (Yaxi pads, Porta Pro headband) - adds more low end and takes away a little treble... smoother & more balanced sounding than stock with more a little more weight behind the sound.

3. Stock KPH30i - cleaner and punchier than PP, brighter sound with just a little less low end but almost as full sounding. Most comfortable of the stock units.

4. Stock KSC75 - more balanced than stock PP with cleaner sound. Low end not as present though and not as warm/full sounding. Clips are less comfortable than either stock PP or KHP30i.

5. Stock Porta Pro - a little too bloomy in the bass and tad bit too muffled sounding. Ears start hurting after 20 minutes of wearing.

6. KPH30i with Yaxi pads - swings too much to a treble heavy headphone and comfort slightly worse than stock due to the funny bowl shape the pads turn into.

I have two porta pros, one stock and the other with yaxi pads. I do like the difference the yaxi brings in.

Interesting that you have used the parts express headband with the ppro and the ksc75 with the ppro headband. I have both my ksc75 on the parts express headband.

I have been curious if I can pull the driver from the ppro stock and move it to the parts express (just like I did on the ksc75). It seems like a yes from your post.

Another interesting thing - I know for sure (since I have it) that the yaxi does indeed reduce the low end on the ppro by a bit. You are also saying it does increase it by a bit on the ksc75 (which it lacks).

Any tip for yanking off the driver from the stock headband on the porta pro? I tried to pull but was worried if I may break the holding plastic knob or the like. Any specific direction / movement to pull it off safely? This is to move it to the parts express headband.

Pull it off in a horizontal direction (the headband and wire is orientated 90 degrees from the direction you should pull them off) ... see these pictures which might help:

If you look at the parts express headband you'll see the horizontal slot in the socket area the driver will pop into - you can use that as reference for the horizontal direction you should only move the drivers in. Also the Porta Pro plastic piece holding in the driver needs to be braced so you dont bend/break it...I used one finger to support the floating end while tilting the driver to the floating end and pulling it to pop it out. They will pop right out with some force... always hardest the first time.

Awesome. Very nice instructions!

The "needs to be braced" means gently pry and hold it wider with a nail or so, so that the driver pops out easier?
