Will try 840's when I get back. (They're there now) And the second set of 74$ T50's is ready for disposal. The Sunday 'Fostex meet' did not happen. The 23rd is coming. ; )

Whew, good thing you can't see (most) headphones when they're on your head, because that brown & black combo is awful

(but I'm sure they sound great!).

It's actually not that bad in person but it was either spend $100 on brown for lightly used or $155 on black for new :P The math was simple for me.

yep its gross looking but it sounds the opposite of its looks. comfort is nice too!

^ ditto that picture makes it look quite bad, but it's doable. These o2 pads are roughly 1.5 years old btw and holding up strong!

If I get another T50RP I'll probably take it easy and go with some cheaper pads like SA5k or 840..maybe 840 if it's in stock at B&H :P They made the decision easy by being out of stock at B&H so I went with O2.

Actually I really don't find it that bad but rather my magnums with reverse quarter modded hd414 pads look worse with those yellow pads imo :p At the end of the day they sound great and the T50RP won't be leaving the house outside of meets or loaners so no big deal.

I know I'm new to this thread but with my T50RPs showing up in a matter of days I'd really like to see a comparison between the Legit fully modded (With O2 pads) Rastapants 2 vs. BMF 6 Mod.

I know BMF is trying to get the best sound out of the T50RP for less than $100, but 90% of LCD2 is pretty nice for a few simple mods, makes me think twice about dishing out the $100 for the brown O2 pads. Wonder if the extra (claimed) 10%+ improvement and the comfort increase is worth it.

Also I plan to pick up a Schiit Lyr for this since I've heard it can drivge LCDs so it must be able to run these.

My question is there any portable amp preferably below $200 which I can output decent (I say decent cause I know it won't be ideal) power to drive these, I'm very sensitive to bass so I usually equalize it down so losing some bass isn't a worry of mine. Any suggestions?

I'd suggest trying the less expensive option first. Then ask yourself if it's thoroughly enjoyable and "good enough." If isn't, welcome to head-fi and sorry about your wallet.

Ok, a few questions. I'm hearing what sounds like noise, distortion, or crackling in the right driver. It's not that noticeable, and cleaning out the jack with some rubbing alcohol seemed to help. At least, cleaning it seemed to get rid of any contact related issues. Channels don't drop out or have random distortion. But I'm still hearing something in the right driver...suggestions?

I might be modding a 2nd pair of these for a friend, and he might not want to upgrade to the 840 pads. I know that BMF mod his T50RPs with the stock pads. Does anyone else do this, and what have their results been? I'm just trying to keep his costs as low as possible, and it seems like most people here jump to at least the 840 pads.

Lastly, has anyone noticed any particular mods making it harder to drive these headphones? My S:Flo2 needs to be maxed out for most music, and my Auzentech Bravura sound card needs to be at least 50-75% depending on the music. I didn't really mess around with them too much stock, so I'm not sure if there are any cases in which modding might make them harder to drive.

Some of the mods did seem to lower the volume by a couple dB on the same position in the volume knob. Although I wouldn't really be using these just from a dap but I've been using them on my home rig where while it may want lots of power but that isn't too much an issue.

i went ahead and covered nearly the entire interior surface of the cups with thick 4mm-ish felt, leaving the vent uncovered for tuning the bass with tape.  here's the stuff i'm using from Lowes: http://www.lowes.com/pd_54164-255-4740095N_0__?productId=3034727&Ntt=felt+pads&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dfelt%2Bpads&facetInfo= .  it's dense wool-like material that's pretty stiff to work with and cut, but the glue backing is sticky.

i read most everyone here using Paxmate, but i'm having a hard time believing that it's any better than the felt?  btw, the extra felt does sound better.

The mods that use a lot of absorption inside the cup reduce efficiency by sucking up the sound that was bouncing around inside then reflecting back out through the driver...

BMF and Armaegis, about the ear-side Dynamat in BMF pants #6. With all the mass damping from the huge amount of plasticine in the baffles, how is such a relatively small amount of Dynamat making a significant change in the sound? What's the science here?

Just tried to take a couple pics of the pad mods, but I only have my cell phone camera and it's way too dark right now.  Until I take new ones tomorrow, here's what I've got.  (Also just ordered more Silverstone so I can actually fill these new pads out properly)
