I personally have little to no MP3 investment except the occassional freebie giveaway.  FLAC still needs to be decoded.  Whether that matters or not is another question for a different sub forum.

I meant in theory WAV is the same as CD, and short of high resolution files such as 24/96 or 24/192, it should perform the best. FLAC needs to be decoded by the player, and that is the reason this player only does WAV- the developers did not want to spend more time and money getting it to the market. 
 
By the way, you can still use mp3 on the QA350. You just have to use a program like Winamp (that's what I use) or dbpoweramp or Max (for MAC) and convert your mp3s to WAV. Probably anything lower than 256 or V1 LAME would be pretty hard to listen to because the player is highly resolving. If you are talking about doing that with the JH-3A, that would not work out well because the JH13 and 16 are so good at conveying detail (or lack of it). I can hear the distortion mp3 introduces to music even on cheap buds and poor players, cymbals sound really splashy and sibilance is usually pretty bad. I can't even imagine what it would be like on the JH-3A. I am sure it would be fine with a few songs, but the majority of songs in mp3 would not work for me if I had that setup. If you try it and enjoy it, great. More power to ya.

I know there has been some discussion here and elsewhere about the inputs to the JH-3A.  It was pretty unclear to me me from several recent posts on head-fi, so I sent Jerry an email this morning.  In less than a minute I heard back.   This is what Jerry said.
 
Inputs are:

1. Mini Jack analog/ same jack but spdif digital

2. Mini USB

Thanks, Bina, for the clarification.   You are correct and Jerry Harvey confirms that the sdif digital is indeed coaxial not optical.
