I have just joined this forum, so please do not be too harsh... :)
Ok, I have decided to buy the JH-3A but I have some component questions..
I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me the EXACT products Jerry Harvey used for his JH3A at Rocky Mountain Fest. I know that based on pictures, he used a macbook air, JH3A, and halide bridge. I would love it someone could tell the i/o types for all of these because I am a noob.

Also, I would be thankful if anybody could recommend me a PORTABLE setup with my ipod that I can carry to school.

Thanks in advance :)

yjkimnada,

Did anyone reply to with a PM?

Reviving this thread.  Currently I am only using the JH3a at my desk with JPLAY, JKMK3 and a Moon Audio cable.  Anyone portable with their 3a?

I use mine with the Ibasso DX100 makes a great potable setup using the coax out of the DX100 Moon audio Black Dragon Cable connecting the 2..

Am strongly considering buying this.  What do you think about the following sourcing:

1) Home/semi-portable:  laptop/netbook - -usb-->musiland monitor --coax-->JH3A

2) Portable:  Cowan iAudio9 --headphone out-->JH3A

Or perhaps for portable I will re-purchase HiFiMan 602/1 (mine was stolen, dammit) - or wait for a reasonable portable with optic out (wait for QA350 to support Flac!!!)

Thanks!!

 I use my laptop with the audiophilleo 2 with cardas clear usb cable with great results
Headphone out is not as good as digital out to the 3a
Coax only no optical input on the 3a

erfmd,

Do you have a budget for your portable and home equipment?  There are various solutions depending on your timeline and funds.

its been a long time
i thought nobody would respond
currently I am also considering this;
ipod--pico slim--jh16: 1550 dollars
ipod--jh3a--jh16: 1800 dollars

is the jh3a better than the pico slim in sound?
is that difference in sound worth 350 dollars
I do have a budget of 2000 but cheaper would be better
thanks in advance

now that i think about it this is also appealing
ipod--jh16
this may sound stupid
but I am just a high school student. I do not have bucket loads of money
I am also not a DIEHARD AUDIOPHILE. I just love music and want to hear everything that I can.
Heck I dont even listen to lossless
Im perfectly fine with my itunes 320kbps AAC or mp3.
I also love portability and simplicity.
If you guys think the amps really improve the sound so much that the extra 300 (pico slim) or 600 (jh3a) dollars is worth paying for
than Ill go for it.
If the amps just improve just a little bit so that only the craziest audiophilies (I'm not) can hear it... than ill just go for the ipod and jh16.
Thanks

You should consider the Ibasso DX100 as a source  no need for a external amp,does a great job with the JH16s  or full size headphones with ease.

another question...
is the JH3A significantly better than the pico slim?
is the pico slim significantly better than the normal ipod and macbook 3.5mm output?
if any of the above are true ... i can always give up buying a new laptop this year (i bought a full-blown 17" macbook pro May 2011. I guess it could last another year...)
Answers would be appreciated

btw..what is in the jh3a box?
i know that there is..
-jh3a amp
-jh16
-jh3a adapter (i don't need to buy one)

What else is there.
I don't want to buy, lets an accessory, and then realize that the accessory i bought separately as already shipped in the  box and that I wasted my money
thanks
