Any advice on updating it, got the app installed etc but this is all I get and cannot select the blu as the tick box isn't selectable.
Is the Go Blu connected to your phone? It needs to be disconnected ~ then you can select GO blu on the app.

Disconnected it from phone and it's gone into pairing mode but still cannot select it
As someone else has suggested to me, make sure you have permitted the app to have full location access, not the partial, 'once when app is running' type.Disconnected it from phone and it's gone into pairing mode but still cannot select it

Two Questions
- Any issue when using the Go Blu as a Wired USB DAC/AMP for PC?
- Can you use the Go Blu as a "WIRED" Dongle with your Phone?

From the bottom of my heart, I really hope people will stop buying BT headphone adapter and believe it will turn out to be great USB headphone adapter / dongle for smartphone. It usually won't.
You should just buy a great USB headphone dongle instead if that's what you want.

For me, a big part of it is the internal battery on these devices (BTR5, UP5, etc). When you disable charging, it doesn't drain your smartphone battery or cause errors on an iPhone (for too much power draw) in USB mode.
