How Many Cans are Enough?!?

I would say two: work and home. Of course it would take a while to find the right one for each situation, so naturally you'll have a bunch that you go through.

Or maybe it's three. One for Work, two for home. One analytical and the other a "fun" headphone.

I think 3 could do it.

HD800 - For most music, movies and gaming.
HD650 - I wouldn't take the 650 as my only can, but it's a great compliment to the 800s.
IEMs - For isolation and portability. Maybe JH16s for when Tron gets dialed up.

One pair is enough, and that's the AKG K 314; 99 % of my listening is done with them. The rest of my phones are for the satisfaction of curiosity. And because the K 314 are discontinued.

I could maybe have 1 HD800 - but I think I enjoy having several cans instead for variety once in awhile. But over time, I'll learn more about what I like/dislike.

I only use two of my headphones and the rest are just there. I have the HD800 for home and JH5 for portable.

Ideally, i would like to have a can for every genre, but my budget doesn't even scratch the surface of buying that many headphones

. I think two would be good for me, although i only have one at the moment. One for bass-heavy music and the other for everything else!

I just recently got rid of 7 headphones and I'm still at a dozen. I... I may have a problem

Only two.

1 open for the soundstage. Depending on your usage and tastes, you may need two: one for games, one for general listening. But generally, one should suffice.

1 closed when isolation is needed such as outdoors, late-night gaming, and/or porn. An IEM could function here, but I'm not a fan of them as they hurt my ears.

must have porn!  Do your headphones provide enough high frequency response and vast soundstage for pornviewing?

I always thought an intimate soundstage with a realistic natural timbre and lush mids would work better, and give a more immersive rather than stoodback experience.

Pphh, if I had the money I'd buy every one that intrigued me. Starting with mid-level phones, then work my way up to the Sennheiser Orpheus and Stax SR-009.

Wait a damned minute...I was doing it wrong all along wasn't I?
