Exactly. A $300 HE-400 bested its own big brothers in that list that includes the HD-800 and LCD-3, among others.

I didn't understand this though: "Rasta wit da ganja emo"???

Sorry to bust the buddble on the he400... I had the he300/400 and he500 and now the code-x... And the he400 i sold after getting headdaches because of the agressive treble and the flappy bass (but it did hit hard though!!) the he500 was by far the more balanced headphone (when driven with the right amp!!!)...and yeah..more laidback also...but on longer listening sessions it was more enjoyable....some even prefer the he500 OVER the he560 because of that more laidback balanced soundsiganture....as the he560 also has a more agressive soundsignature i understand...i also dont understand why they killed the he500...it should be sold next to the he560 because of its different soundsignature.

Oh well..lets get back on topic okay:)

From my understanding, Hifiman is strictly going the he4 route and that is with single sided magnet. Hence the he500 and presumably the he6 later this year being discontinued, that is if a trickle down version of the he1000 replaces it.

What about the he400i? $350 in the classifieds and it has the new headband and a comfy weight.

So there is no preorder date yet right?

No, not yet. As I said in a previous post, I'd definitely consider what we've seen so far more of a sneak preview than a launch.

I have a feeling it will be several months before we start seeing HiFiMAN HE1000's for sale, but will post any more specific info on that as soon as I have it.

Regarding the HE-400, the older version with the white drivers was a lot better than what replaced it. Unlike the later HE-400, it was not bright at all; in fact its tonal balance was kind of like the SR-007 mk1. It was lacking on the technical front (had a grainy sound with grey background), but its bass performance was among the best of the HiFiMans and it performed well overall for the asking price IMO.

Too bad subsequent revisions were changed.

I'm gonna miss that white-driver HE-400 I sold off a while back.  It still had a noticeable and harsh treble peak, but a simple and small EQ fixed it right up.  The bass was phenomenal-- went toe to toe with a pre fazor'd LCD2 minus some very extreme bass extension.

Regarding the lcd-3 pre-fazor as in my setup the bass is there when it hits it hits hard but sometimes it's too articulated and couldn't be felt as a hit but rather a bass note I would like it to be more expressive though and from my last listen to I think it was HE-300 it was somewhat similar though with less slam it was in the last local meet. With the better treble articulation and with soundstage like hd800 I'm hoping the hek will answer this issue and I'm very honest about this post.

From the linked article...

Pricing for the HE-1000 and EF-1000 has not yet been determined. Dr. Bian advises, too, that good though the HE-1000 prototypes shown at CES are, he has a few more performance tricks up his sleeve that he expects to implement before the headphones are released at some point in mid-2015. Judging by the sound of the system, expect pricing to be very high, but arguably worth it.

Well there you go. It's gonna be like $2500-$3500 for the HE-1000 and $4000-$5000 for the system. The good Dr. has just got the go-ahead to price it to the stratosphere. HiFiMan also advertises in Hi-Fi+, who also review all their products.

Can we add a wiki to OP with actual impressions.  This thread is moving too fast and too full of hot air.
