Does anyone have a frequency response graph for the HE1K?  Perhaps a beta tester with access to some testing equipment?

however, a lot of people here believe in having a lot of extra power for 'headroom.' also, there was someone who said that Dr. Fang stated that the Chord Hugo's amplifier isn't good enough to maximize the HE-1000's potential (600mW at 32 ohms).

Quote:
Fang is most likely biased since he wants to sell his expensive EF-1000 amplifier with the HE-1000.

It's better if someone who is independent does a proper test.

You may be right.  If the HE-1000 has same efficiency than the HE-560 (90 dB), then, HUGO should be OK to drive it !

I don't know about testers but I do know Tyll will have measurements up on InnerFidelity when the final version is released. He won't measure non-production units.

  The EF-1000 is an hybrid tube input, ss output design, which will deliver between 8-15 watts depending on the impedance of the headphone when used as a headphone amp, and 50 watts class A or 150 watts class A/B when driving speakers. it uses 6922 tubes. 6 of them. it will be se and balanced. so no it is not gonna be cheap.

Above is all that I could find on the output power of the EF1000 amp.

Here is what confuses me:

  1. HE1000 is said to be easier to drive than the HE-6, indeed more like the HE-560;
  2. The EF-6 amp specification sheet says that it provides 5W into 50 ohms;
  3. @erikfreedom states that the EF1000 provides 8 - 15 W, into loads not specified but likely in the same range, i.e., EF1000 is MORE powerful than the EF-6
  4. EF1000 is shown paired and seems to be designed for the HE1000.

So.... why is an amp with greater power being paired with a headphone whose drive requirements are stated to be less (i.e., EF1000 with HE1000 vs. EF-6 with HE-6).

(by the way @erikfreedom where did you get the info on the output power of the EF1000?)

Thanks!

Can't wait to see the results.

In case anyone is interested, the HiFiMAN website slideshow for the HE-1000 has been updated with photos of, presumably, the final version.  It looks pretty nice.  You can find it at http://hifiman.com/he1000/.

Edit:  Unfortunately, if you look in the 6th slide, you can see that the stitching on the headband is crooked.  I know it's a small thing, but for $3000, I think it is not unreasonable to expect the cans to be flawless down to the last detail.

Of course you do have a point there but this usually should be the photographer's job to filter out before he releases the pictures. In case there was no "perfect" sample available HiFi man should have opted rather to wait than to post this example of sloppy trimming. I guess it won't affect the sound though

but yeah for $3k every detail counts, more importantly this is just something you can see...

I don't care if the he-1000's sound as good as a Victoria's Secret model climaxing - if they don't show perfect results on a frequency response graph I'm not buying them!

They are not JPS Labs. A follow-up to the below and a flagship costing almost 3x the previous one, would be very embarrassing otherwise:

I have confidence in Hifiman. But since you ask for it, I would want both a frequency response chart AND a THD one.

This THD is an embarrassment at any price, let alone at an inflated price:

I was actually being facetious.

The technical side of this hobby seems very interesting, but I'll be honest mate, regarding the graphs you just linked.. You may as well be speaking Swahili to me.

All credits where they are due - you got me this time. :)

However that Abyss distorsion is actually audible in my honest opinion.

I'm with potkettleblack.  I bought an Abyss because I loved the sound not because of a graph.

Similarly, if anyone loves the sound of the HE1000 but rejects it because of a test result they are a fool.

I mean, if we all went by stats not by levels of enjoyment, nobody would own a tube amp.

This is now amusing. potkettleblack's tactics at work. :)

I wasn't suggesting making my decision based on the FR graph. I have already ordered mine :). I would just be curious to see that as well as the THD graph.
