Mike,
How did they sound with the WA5? Were you using the 1K output?

Maybe your ears is accomadate to extra treble presence of the HE6 and in comparison you feel the HE1000 rolled off.

Frankly if the way you describe is the way it's sound so I will like it very much !

You may be right . I have qualified in my report that " I might have been too used to the coloration of HE-6 ".

In my experience you can greatly enhance the warmth , the bass impact and quantity , the fullness and richness of the body of HE-6 by pairing with a good Class A speaker amp, and good  cables ( and perhaps also gooding modding , as suggested by some herein  ) ,without compromising  the ultimate bit of resolution . After all, it's common consensus within this community that HE-6 scales so well with the amp.

For all others who are addicted to the treble presence of HE-6 , I am not sure whether you can pair HE-1000 with any amp in order to match the treble presence of HE-6 . In other words , I seriously doubt whether you can simply replace HE-6 with HE-1000 without any loss of enjoyment . Of course you may have a more tonally balanced  and yet very detailed presentation with HE-1000.( BTW , I doubt EF-1000 compromise the last bit of resolution of HE-1000, such that it is apparently not  on par with HE-6 when compared side by side). HE-1000 may on the whole be a step up from HE-6 . However, I suspect that HE-6 may still standout as a class of its own even after introduction of HE-1000.

If you are into HE-6 , you can't help. You simply like it.  Likewise , there are so many who are so addicted to HD-800, even though there are  obvious drawbacks in its sonic signature . I believe it should be more so for HE-6, taking into consideration of it's huge scalability with the driving amp.

Out of everything I've ever heard, the 009's were the ones that impressed me the most for classical. Then the x's.

My housemate took a picture of me when I heard them for the first time.

Apparently I slumped over and put my head in my hands in disbelief, and had my mouth wide open.

How cool is it that she caught the moment on camera:

(I just woke her up to send me this picture)

I'm hoping the he-1000 (something that I can afford) causes the same reaction.

Where was this store again?

@kayandjohn
, that seems right... though that is a surprisingly low amount of power required. the majority of amplifiers will output at least 100mW at 32 ohms. even the herus which is really just a dac has 126mW at 32ohms and the audioquest usb dac has 125mW at 32ohms (though those are maximum power specs I believe).

however, a lot of people here believe in having a lot of extra power for 'headroom.' also, there was someone who said that Dr. Fang stated that the Chord Hugo's amplifier isn't good enough to maximize the HE-1000's potential (600mW at 32 ohms).

so who really knows. guess we'll have to see what people think once they get beta units.

Fang is most likely biased since he wants to sell his expensive EF-1000 amplifier with the HE-1000.

It's better if someone who is independent does a proper test.

I didn't get to hear it.  :frowning2:  Yes, Jack was using the K1k output.
