The lyr is overkill if all your driving is the he400. If your have other orthos or hard to drive hp's then it's money well spent.

I have the Grado RS-1s, and Beyerdynamic DT-880s. I've been listening to them with an Asgard 2 amplifier. I received the HiFiMan HE-400s today, and have not taken them off for several hours. I bent the headband, a little, and installed the velours before starting. I expected a different sound with the planars, but WOW! The "size" of the sound! It's like it's all around you. I 've heard things I didn't even know was on the tracks I listen to, all the time. Jazz, Rock, Classical, Country, it's all great. I'm so glad I saw, and read this forum.

P.S. The Asgard 2 is not all that hot for a class A amplifier. :)

I'm eyeing the RS-1's Vs HE 400's-too different to compare?

If you guys haven't run into Lindsey Stirling, the HE400 really shines with her style. The bass drops are much more impressive with a better source of course, but here's one of my fav songs to show off this HP:

Yeah, true, that's why I got myself a tube one.

Lyr is classified as a tube amp, which I am supposed to get very soon?
Input can be handled by tubes and output by FETs?
I am afraid that Lyr can be not much different from the sound quality of SS amps, which was in accordance with one of the questions of audiophile's myth:
Should we buy as simple as possible SS amp to lower the price and keep the same expectation any way....?

Edit:
My memory might not be correct.
The question was that we should buy a low cost amp?

As skeptical as I am by nature, the Lyr CERTAINLY does sound noticeably different from SS amps, even with stock tubes.

Great source for the HE-400 if you're interested in trying out tubes - http://www.head-fi.org/t/633006/aune-t1-usb-tube-dac-amp-discussion-thread-see-first-post-for-faq/

Agreed although I like her song Shadows more. I bought about half of her album a couple months ago. I'm hoping with her next album she pulls away from the wubwubwub a bit.
