I think I'm going to get a red mesh and a black grill for my HE400s, make a custom headband that won't mess it up, repaint it black, and get a red velour for the ear pads...

Also a red tecflexed cable would look sick...

Have you attempted to disassemble them yet?

Hello guys, I'm really confused atm.
Lately I've been looking into an Amp an a Dac for my Hifiman HE-400.

Currently I use Asus xonar essence st +its headphone amp as dac/amp
and im reaaally happy with the sound but I got some spare money (~800 euro)
and I thought maybe it would be worth spending those on upgrades.

However I'm still not sure, will buying for example schiit bifrost+lyr make them sound ALOT better?
I already like the sound currently from my soundcard.

I'm considering that as well, as I haven't terminated the cable I'm crafting yet.  May just ship them off to him and finish up with mini-XLR instead of the standard SMC.  Seems doable to DIY, but I'd hate to mess up modifying the cups since there's not really any way to get replacements that I know of.

I want it just so the cables I get will work with my future LCD2.2s...

how does the weight of the he-400 compare to the he-500 and senn hd600/650?  which would be preferable for long listening sessions (several uninterrupted hours)?

The HE400 is in between those two. HE500 is heavier and Senns are lighter.  HE500 is around 550g, HE400 around 480g, not sure on the HD650 though.

HD650s are VERY light, but have high clamp, and the HE400s clamp is a LOT less, so HE400s are comfier IMHO.
