**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Hi everyone, just started posting on Head-Fi and really enjoying this site.  I've had my HE-400 since May 2014 and really enjoyed it as it was.  Since looking a many of the forums/threads, I've found so much helpful info that got me modding my HE-400.  I've changed the pads, done the grill mod and made a custom padded head cushion.  I've attached a pic to look at.

What did you put behind the grill? How has the sound changed?

KewlMunky, the fabric behind the grill is silk organza (amazon), usually used in wedding dresses and gowns and comes in many different colors.  As for the sound change, the sound stage is more open, the slight ringing I had on some songs is gone and the highs seems smoother.  I got the idea for the grill and fabric mod from somewhere here on Head-Fi, sorry, I forgot where.
PS: did this mod on my HE-400i also but haven't done the HE-560, need to order more grill material.  The sound changes on the HE-400i is about the same as the HE-400.

You didn't start anything. Furthermore, as far as I know the purpose of this thread is not to only to help you out. Many other folks read them and hopefully benefit from them.

To your question, it seems you need at least as much power as an Asgard 1 and the convinience of an integrated DAC is desirable: http://www.head-fi.org/t/604583/hifiman-he-400-impressions-and-discussion-thread/19620#post_11376288

Well the O2 is not going to provide any of that. For all the "might" of the O2, the Asgard 1 is a much more powerful amp than the O2.

I would actually recommend you to stick with your original Asus Essence option based on what you seem to be looking for. I don't immediately see any issues with it pairing well with an HE-400.

So he's supposed to get the more powerful amp for a sensitive and low impedance can like the HE-400 as against the O2 which has 7Vrms already when the HE-400 just needs less than 2Vrms at 110dB?

What have I done, I didn't want to derail the thread!
Posts like this really aren't helping me out. I'm just asking for options

At that price, there really is no option. Get the O2 and you'll understand all the bashing.

A reply and all I see is bs, bs, bs, bs, bs.  Keeping it classy I see, diamondears.

They are what they are, TMRaven. Read your post again.

What do you mean by filters? Straight up I have no idea if the ones I use have standard or linear.

Every DAC has a digital filter that affects the sound.

Well guess I can't do better than the Asus Essence/Schiit Asgard I had before...oh well.

I'm not even going there, it will start an argument with the O2 association

My point was that not all tube amps are "colored"  that is all.

The Fosgate Signature is a hybrid, output is SS. That's quite a misleading argument don't you think?

Your right, you showed me the light.

Glad to have enlightened you. Anytime you find a tube amp that's as transparent as a solid-state without solid-state's help, let me know.
