Enjoying my He400s as all of you :)

Does anyone listen to them with a balanced cable? Or a silver cable? Have a feeling that silver isn't a good fit to the he400s sound sig, but balanced could be interesting...

Hello guys just went ahead and bought myself a Magni to use with an HE400. My budget wouldnt allow me to get a MODI so i had to settle for hooking the Magni directly to my computer using a 3.5 mm to 2 RCA male cable. Would this significantly affect the sound quality since i heard that it would be using both the computer amp and the Magni. My motherboard is fairly high end

Thank you in advance!

I'm going to have to agree to disagree. I've been running a headphone based systems from everything to HD650's to AKG K702's and now I'm running HE-400's and have purchased aftermarket cable upgrades for all 3 'phones. I have yet to not achieve overall audible sound improvement in any of these headphones. And this is not a result of "wishful" listening.

I listen to the he400 balanced out of the ibasso pb2 and notice an appreciable increase in the sound the he400 can produce. If you own a soldiering iron and a balanced amp it is quite easy to do the cabling yourself especially with the connection of the HE series and a multimeter (or, without a multimeter, a battery, a light/LED and a wire or two).

You can start by gently bending the headband. Gently.

Then you can try twisting the cups to the angle of your head. Pinch the hifiman logo to the headband, and twist. It is stiff, and the cups are not held on by much, so be careful.

Both of those increased comfort for me!

Hmmm, tried those already but it's still rather uncomfortable (which is a shame since I really like the HE400's fun sound sig), maybe it's just the shape/size of my head

I just sent in my HeadRoom Micro Amp in to replace a couple of jacks. 1st time in 5 years and I rarely turn it or the Micro DAC off. Lets face it, 3.5mm jacks just don't have the superior connection the larger 1/4in jacks do. So I hooked up my HE-400's up to the headphone output of my Toshiba laptop and the volume level is barely about a whisper. Even with pink noise it doesn't get very loud at all. I have to wonder if an iPad or iPod or similar portable device would fare any better like advertised. Anyone out there try and it so, how well do they perform?

I like my X3 just want to make sure I have power to drive them(he-400).

My advice, slow down. The 400 will sound very good from the x3. Use it for a month or so and get a feel for how good you think it is. I was on the 400 and e17 for nearly a year, and very happy, before the upgrade bug struck. The 400 doesn't need much amping to get to a very enjoyable level.

Cool...I certainly don't mind waiting I just wanted to make sure I could enjoy them when I got them.

So I've realized that I'm rather treble sensitive. For about 60-75% of my music (mainly indie, electronica, pop, and hip-hop) this is the only way I seem to be able to enjoy my HE-400s.

No longer using Jergpads - found them to make my ears too hot, back to velours.
