What frequency range are you really focusing on? I don't see anything I would call an upper mid dip on the HE1000 or even the HE-500 (didn't look at the others yet) If you are referring to how some time shortly after 1000 Hz the overall frequency response drops, every headphone and speaker does that. Or if you are referring to, for example, the dip with the HE-500 at well beyond 5 KHz, I always considered that lower treble but I have seen it referred to as upper mids as well.

Still the result of specific tuning I wager though, to make a more laid back or less forward sound on certain models.

Seriously?

Seriously?

As I said, I suppose what you call upper mids I consider too high in frequency to still be the mid range. So to me, planars tend to have the flattest mids.

Acknowledging that, yes that does seem to be common with planars but there is still a decent amount of them without it (HiFiMan HE-6, HE-560, at least some variants of the Fostex T50RP). I don't chalk it up to the tech and even if it was, it can be undone as several planars demonstrate.

Yeah, it seems to be opening up more because it seems like there's more treble now. It's still mid bassy but I'd say it's a bit more tighter and controlled than the HEX.
Does the Ananda have a wide sound-stage ?

i found he560 very bright for my taste. is ananda fatiguing? i listen to some metallica too and i don't want to get my ears pierced

I don't expect HiFiMan to make such a bright headphone as the HE-560 ever again.
