R6 pro power going from 750 to 383 ? Even lower than the r6 III. That’s a mistake IMO . Either in design or the photo we will know soon I guess. A little lower is fine but half is too much.

Really bizarre. Been hanging out for this to drive my Amirons and new sennheiser 660s2's. Really want to get in on the Hiby bandwagon but the amps are going backwards

well i spent a little time with the r6pro2 this afternoon and ended up doing the pre-order, even though i already have the r6 mk3. main differences for me were the 'style'of the AKM dac vs the ESS in the r6 mk3 - both good, the mk3 is a better all-rounder and more forgiving, but the pro2 is definitely more detailed and 'sharper'. i also felt more of an audible difference in switching between AB and class A on the r6 pro2 when driving my Fostex TH900mk2 SBs - audibly better soundstage and slam, a much crisper presentation. while i actually prefer the ergonomics of the mk3 (smaller, and the buttons are laid out a bit better), the sonics on the pro2 are more than better enough to justify the marginal price difference IMO.
the purple is a *little* garish, and the wavy lines on the back irritate me a bit, but i figure it will be going in a case anyway (no confirmation on whether the preorder will get a leather case freebie like the mk3 did, but fingers crossed). the black is a very light black and the wavy lines are equally visible, so may as well get the more interesting colorway  great match for a fostex th900 mk2 brilliant purple, if one needs a color co-ordinated audio rig :p

The price difference isn’t just marginal tho it’s like 50% 650 vs 900 ( taking SGD for prices).

Yeah I think they want to upsell people to the higher end line for more power. The r6 also got reduced power in the R6 III. Probably cause the RS6 is 600mW.

err - 650 vs 900 is a 38% increase, which, fair enough, isn't 'marginal'. but IMO the sonic difference i heard justified the $250 price difference was my point. YMMV of course! of course the 'retail' pricing is supposed to be 1099 SGD and at that point, i think the mk3 looks far more attractive!

Well my math is weak 😛

Though given the choice I’ll also go for the r6 pro ( design preference and AKM). The power reduction is a bummer for me. Will wait for some comparison with RS6 and will decide if I should wait for a deal on that or get this.

Yeah, the significantly lower power is, well, bizarre… While I like everything else about the this one, the power number probably made the R6III the easier (and much cheaper) choice for me.

The M6U Is worth a look too

@Jono17 you can also check that Quad AKM with 750mW is decent

Am I the only one who finds it an ugly device!
Design is subjective - is it a bold move? 100%.
There are always people who like it and those who don't, we've seen this in smartphones (larger displays, camera bumps, notches, cut-outs, curved corners Vs sharp edges, curved screens etc etc). It is good to see though, more DAP designers need to get out there and make stuff other than rectangular bricks and we need more colour choices than Copper, Aluminium, Gold & Black. ☠️ Even in smartphones - Apple has a fresh colour way each year.
