Will this work? if I chopp off the RCA connectors and add banana plugs?

Yeah, most likely. See no reason why it shouldn't work, there must be 4 conductors in that adapter..

That adapter looks too short to allow enough room for 3 or 4 banana plugs, but a longer one would be good.

Thanks I'll try this first and try and find a longer one, it's on;y a few dollars so quite cheap

How does this amp compare to the LYR? Im in love with the Lyr's aesthetics, and its worth a little more to me, however if they are very practically similar in sound, I might consider saving the 200. What are your guy's thoughts?

^ if strictly for HE500, save yourself $200.  Swing by my place and give the amp a try if you want.  I am in SJ.

Great for HE-500 and LCD-2. Personally liked it more with LCD-2, but HE-500 is still good. LCD-3 = not that good. Emotiva can still drive speakers.

Thanks! Also, how did you connect to the amp? I'm open to making my own cable, but haven't found and good comprehensive guide for a non-balanced cable.

I personally went for an adapter system that made it easy to connect all headphones to it. You can make an adapter cable that is 1/4 or XLR. Both work fine for Emotiva as it's common ground. However, that doesn't work for balanced amps. So I went with XLRs to ensure compatibility with all amps.

1) Banana plugs to 4 pin female XLR
2) Balanced 4 pin male XLR Hifiman cable

Optional: 3) (3.5mm or 1/4" male) to 4 pin female XLR cable

The third optional cable is to attach to the balanced HE-500 cable so you can use it with single ended amps, without having to take off the cable ever again from HE-500. This three piece adapter will let you easily connect it any amp out there in a matter of few seconds.

Go for Neutrik. Simple snap on/off each time

I can put a TRS in the front plate for you or help you make the cable.  Either way is pretty easy.
