street price in Thailand is about 1200$. (I bought HD800 new last week)
Quote:Quote:Quote:That's just getting a bit silly. These higher end flagship headphones with "proper" pricing (relative to performance) make more sense at $600-700 tops, imo.
I agree. I would pick up a pair for enjoyment at $700. $1400 always seemed like a bit much for the performance of the cans.
How much are the top teir Grado's, Ultrasone and Beyer-are any at $700.??? and i think the HD800 surpasses all of them.
While I don't agree with the HD800 really surpassing the T1 (probably because I listen to mostly rock/metal), most of the flagships all cost way out of their performance range. I know it's comparing apples to oranges, but I'm of belief that you can achieve much more with $1800 in speakers than you can with the HD800.
Most of headphones $400 and below all greatly surpass what you can achieve with speakers at equal cost, but these flagships are still only headphones and greatly out-cost their performance increase. I know there's a premium for "the best", but $1400 was already up there in comparison to the other flagships available as-is.
This is really too bad ... considering that the cheaper HE-6, LCD-2, and SR-507 all outperform the HD-800 by a wide margin, I don't see what Sennheiser has to gain here aside from a few clueless noveau riche snob appeal purchases.
