That's just getting a bit silly. These higher end flagship headphones with "proper" pricing (relative to performance) make more sense at $600-700 tops, imo.

I agree. I would pick up a pair for enjoyment at $700. $1400 always seemed like a bit much for the performance of the cans.

How much are the top teir Grado's, Ultrasone and Beyer-are any at $700.??? and i think the HD800 surpasses all of them.

It seems in Europe they are cheaper. Saw some on some HD800s WITH and omega headphone stand at some Spanish website for 1067 some dollars if you converted the euros to usd.

everything from Sennheiser is cheaper in Europe

its 16€ in Europe. How much cheaper is it in USA? It can't be much cheaper if at all

Really?  How much do the D7000 retail for that you own?  You're telling me you don't think the HD800 are more resolving and more accurate than the D7000?

Those flagships should be dropped in price as well.

HD800s are certainly more accurate than my d7000. But I purchased the d7000 for $500, brand new. I think that the D7000 up to $600 is a great price, for a fun pair of headphones.

Flagships will always command a premium. Most computer components are at the top bang for the buck when you look at the second from the top, such as hard drives.

At first I thought sennheiser was doing a Rolex, but the usd argument makes more sense.

Good luck with that, Sennhauser.

MSRP at Sennheiser USA is $1,799.95. (http://www.sennheiserusa.com/dynamic-stereo-headphones-high-sound-quality_500319)

And here I thought prices would decline over time.

Interesting. The Canadian list price (since the HD800 hit the streets) was $1800. The Canadian dollar is now slightly above par with the US currency. So Sennheiser has brought the US list up to what the Canadian is, instead of lowering the Canadian SRP to the US one. What a ripoff.

While I don't agree with the HD800 really surpassing the T1 (probably because I listen to mostly rock/metal), most of the flagships all cost way out of their performance range. I know it's comparing apples to oranges, but I'm of belief that you can achieve much more with $1800 in speakers than you can with the HD800.

Most of headphones $400 and below all greatly surpass what you can achieve with speakers at equal cost, but these flagships are still only headphones and greatly out-cost their performance increase. I know there's a premium for "the best", but $1400 was already up there in comparison to the other flagships available as-is.

Our RRP was $2399 if I remember correctly. God only knows what it is now. The AUD is just below parity.

Grado PS1000-$1695. with tight sales controls
Ultasone ED10-$2749. MSRP sales control?
Beyer T1 $1295.

Seems that the original $1400. was in line with other flagships to me.  And like i said earlier, many of us would choose the HD800s over all of these.

The current sales prices that i see around ie headroom typical prices $1499. still in line, cheaper than two and just above the fourth.  Guess some people just love to hate Senn as some do Grado and others do Ultrasone, who by the way sells a portable for $2000. so go figure.
