HD600 + Extended Bass + Larger Soundstage = ?

Actually I'm looking for the same headphones as you do : HD600 + extended soundstage.

I tried a lot of things (HD700/HD800/MA900/DT990/DT880/L2/HE400) and the only one which fit my requirements so far are the HE-500. I've received them this morning only but I already see a big problem for me : they seem not to be comfortable enough to stay on my head several hours in a raw....

I will extend my testing period, if it turns out to be NOK I'll probably try SRH1840, X1 and K712 pro

If none of them will be ok, then I'll wait for HE560i...

I read Tyll's review of the X1 - a big bottom and an airy top does not make a HD600 type headphone. It makes a headphone tuned for modern tastes, a headphone that pleases in the short term but disappoints after you lived a while with it. Even the aforementioned MA900 is more of a modern HD650 challenger if anything ...

Have you actually heard the X1 for any extended length of time?

What makes you think I did, roguegeek?

Cocolino, add the ad2000x to that candidate list (not the ad2000, I've heard it and while it's great, it has a colored mid-range that is fantastic for some music - I remember reading that the ad2000x is more neutral ).

Just trying to see if you're one of those people who comment or give feedback on cans they haven't experienced. Thanks for the validation.

Yes, I've also heard that the HE-500 has a similar sound signature to the HD 600 with extended bass, not sure about soundstage though. But like you mentioned the comfort is supposed to be awful. If you look at the HE-500 ratings on HeadFi, the comfort score is appalling.

This is why I have high hopes for the much lighter and apparently more comfortable HE-560i, soon to be released.

I somewhat agree with this description. The X1 is very exciting but I started craving realism after owning them a while.

My modded HD250 has much better bass and for a closed headphone it doesn't sound closed in at all, but even modded the midrange is a bit recessed and the highs a bit more than I'd like. But in terms of texture / clarity and bass quality and extension it beats the HD600 into a pulp. Ultimately thought, the HD600 is still better - mainly because it's open.

The HD600 is like democracy, it's the worst there is, except for everything else. :)

I know you're joking, but it's a lot better than that. It does so many things well, including even harpsichord which hardly ever sounds good.

Well... today I switched pleather to velour : much more comfortable! Now I can wear those HE500 for several hours in a raw without suffering anymore... just focus on music ...
They sound wonderful, I looove my HD600 but I have to admit the superiority of these Hifiman!

maybe the he560i is even better - hifiman does have a track record of improving their stuff (they also have room for improvement left, with that awful pad mounting system for example)

does it have a larger soundstage though?

I know it sounds silly since much more "serious" headphones are mentioned here but as MA900 was brought forth, why not mention the k612 pro? I never heard any of these headphones but supposedly k612 has much bigger soundstage and better low end extention compared to HD600 with pretty neutral signature, that based on headroom graphs and opinions around here. Hardly any high end headphone has expansive soundstage without a treble peak somewhere...

I presume the K612 is identical to the K601. In that case I think the op needs a little more bass extension and weight. Maybe they should have given the K612 +3dB bass like they did with the K712 relative to the K702.
Other than that, the K612(K601) is one of the best deals in headphones for it's price. The HD600 is worth the extra money though. :)

I don't think it can be as Kx12 uses larger drivers (53mm vs. 45mm). There are a couple of K601 currently on FS.
