Me, too, and the midrange comes forward a bit. I like the sound just as much (or probably more if I spend more time with velours), but I want to wait until the leatherette pads break down from use before sticking with the velours. =p

could it be those non originals colored velour pads?
the material insode, the part that goes to the driver is quite different from the priginal velour ones, and the inner hole is slighty smaller too.
Or it could be mostly placebo.

You saying we shouldn't hear a difference?
The driver face hole is smaller indeed, but the velours are black. The insode is identical to that of the leatherettes.
Or did you mean that tiny hole in the insode? It is the same in both pads for me. My HD25-1 is barely a month and a half old since I bought it, and new to boot with Sennheiser's 2-year warranty. I covered up the little hole with electrical tape in both kinds of pads, this makes a slight improvement in sound.
I dislike that the velours are uneven, kind of lumpy, unlike the leatherettes. That makes them less comfortable, and I get a slightly better seal on one ear than the other if I don't hold them with my hands.

yes my velours are uneven too, and the inside of mines, where that little hole is, is of a different material to the originals, perhaps I should take a photo.
ANd i dont like that small difference, everything is thiner ( or so I feel like)

I think the hole on the inside of the stock velours is ever so slightly smaller than the one in the pleathers too. Mine aren't uneven at all though, but maybe that's just because they're new.

I remember reading somewhere on head-fi that there is a third kind of earpads sold for the HD 25 at some places (neither velour nor the fake leather that both come with them by default)
Does anyone know anything about them?

Just dropping by to say I'm really enjoying my HD 25-1, best $200 I've ever spent. Everything sounds so much better now, so much more alive, I just can't go back to ibuds. I've only one problem with them so far: they aren't really great for running. Any IEM recommendations (up to $250)? I like the sound signature of the HD 25-1, but I usually EQ the mids (third and fourth band in the five-band EQ actually) up one db. Maybe the EX510 or the EX600?

I very much enjoy my Ortofon e-Q5. They are very well balanced and the mid are very good. The Bass very good too with much more detail compared to the HD-25-1

After 200 hours, my unit sounds more awesome! Best $200 purchase ever spent. Now that itch to amp this awesome can is at an all time high. Ugh

^Hows the clamp? Did it loosen at all, mine after two weeks of purchasing are still hurting my ears.
Clamp force doesn't seem to change, and I've had mine for nearly two months with frequent use.

mine got a little bit looser as I was using them at work, some days they were on for 6 hours at a time. I had to actually put them away for a while so they can tighten up again.
That's my experience, but I'm guess Mr. Mad Max above me has a smaller head. Mine on the other hand is pretty big. This might factor into it.

It loosens with use, I've noticed, but once you stop using it, it slowly re-tightens, which is a good thing as they become too loose after a while and that is inconvenient when I use them with the headband around the back of my neck, "street-style" or whatever you call it.

Do you guys know if there's a substantial amount of SQ improvement from initial wearing? I've put in 20-30hrs. so far in 2weeks and I'm not quite liking the sound. It just seems a bit harsh sounding and not as detailed/seperated as I hoped for.
I haven't kept track of burn-in, but others recommend 100 hours.
Harshness eventually goes away. How detaile/separated were you expecting it? lol In comparison to what?
