what's your thoughts on the shipibo pads? kinda pricey
VERY soft. Not cheap, but very comfortable. And I don't find the sound changed much.

I simply could not wear the stock pads.
But it's all just opinion. Good luck.

L-pads.
I didn't like the F-pads as they put the sound right in my ear. It was too loud and I had to turn the volume down. Kind of the opposite of the Dekoni's.

how do you guys feel about aftermarket pads? Never tried any. Curious mainly. If there's a pad that's more comfortable and retains the sound of the L pads, that would be sweet.
With my rs1x, I don't feel any need for alternative pads

I believe that. The rs1x have very anemic bass. I think the bass sounds good. But it really only comes out in certain tracks.
.... that may be true in your setup. When paired with Icon Audio HP8 Signature as the headphone amp, RS-1x is certainly not anemic in bass response.

I've been a death metal fan for 30 yrs but for the last several years I totally lost interest in exploring more music until I got my rs1xs last year.
Grados literally work their a** off to revive distortion guitar sound of any records.

Truth. Nothing beats grados for metal in my experience. Sure, they aren't bass canons. But guitar just sounds so ****ing awesome.

Grados are awesome for mids, guitars and voices truly shine on a grado. If you want Grado with Bass then it’s the Hemp Grado you want.

I have one currently on the way and this is exactly what I’m looking for. I think I can deal with next to no bass if guitars shred.
I'd say "next to no bass" is an exaggeration. The bass is definitely a weak point for most grados. But they do have snappy punch. Just don't expect any boom, you won't get it. Grados are definitely mid/treble focused headphones. Which model did you order?

Rsx1 is what I ordered. Sounds like you enjoy yours
Nice. Taking the dive, eh? My advice. Give them plenty of time to burn in before you judge them. My opinion of them changed radically over a short period of time.

I looked into them and a few guys on another site called them the grado goat so I figured I’d give them a whirl. Another member here has recommended me trying them for years but my main concern is the earpads on my ears.

The trade off is that the bass gets even weaker with age but the Mid and highs are much smoother. Listening to R&Bs, smooth Jazz, and classical music on my RS2e is amazing.
