I'm not sure they were meant to drive headphones. At the show they were driving a pair of speakers to some real sonic delights.
Yes, its speaker amp basically.

RS1x- This is like Grado's take on the HD800s. That's not said in jest either....the technical level of the RS1 is outstanding in terms of resolution, speed, imagining, stage. Not quite the width/depth on the HD800/s...very little is....but man it's something in action. This is...raw impact for me...the most "special" of the four listed here. That said, also like the HD800/s, it's boom or bust depending on what you are listening to. I would not pick this up as a sure-fire daily driver if your jam is bass-heavy/EDM/rap/rock. It depends on how the tracks were mastered (I do enjoy some metal/EDM with these cans)....a lot of bass-heavy or mid-muddled mixes just leaves peaky treble with thin, fizzy mid/bass underneath. Classical/Jazz/Ambient/etc. is the 'safer' route. But when these hit appropriate mixes....holy smokes. Punches way, way above its price tag. Fast as heck, crazy good imaging/separation, great tonality with the wood cups....

RS2x - Where the RS1x aims for the moon and accepts that some mixes will fall to the earth, the RS2x applies 85% of the magic across a less boom/bust tuning. Some of the air/treble energy is dialed back, bass and lower mids come up (not bass/lower heavy overall, but more thump than the RS1x). The technicalities are slightly dialed back....but still strong overall. Very strong when you consider the $550 price-point. This is likely the 'safer' pick...and a very impressive set of cans period....for the average listener. That said....if the HD800/s is your jam and you have tube amps that can work with higher sensitivity phones sans too much noise......buy the RS1x and don't look back.

I have to quote this again. At the shop yesterday, I compared RS1X vs RS2X. Your impressions are uncanningly accurate and I agree.

Except I prefer RS1X. Tonally it's up my alley.

I would contact the manufacturer about driving headphones with tubes amps made for speakers. It is not that simple. I had a very intresting conversation about it with Aleksandar (from Raal). The attached impedance (headphone) has effect to the primary impedance of the output tubes and that can alter the low frequency capacity of the amplifier (in a wrong and not subtle way). Most tube speaker amps are excepting 4 or 8 Ohms load and the system is designed to that (often there is a switch to choose between 4 and 8 Ohm because of this effect). Now you are putting 32 Ohms there.

Plus noise will be likely a problem (especially with Grado - very sensitive).

Speaking of Raal, I heard Raal sr1a and sr1b with the Raal amp at the show yesterday. Also the Meze Elite for the first time. Also Holo May and Bliss for the first time. Also Feliks Audio Envy for the first time.

It is this context that I will talk about the RS1X in my system - when I have ~100 hours on it. :)

Just waiting on a refund and I'll probably splurge on the 325x.

I'm looking for an adapter for the apple dongle. I found a usb-c female to micro male at Walmart but it says 480kbps. Would that cap the audio at 480kbps or is that a different thing?

I'm getting my iPhone 5S fixed, I'll have to buy another dongle for lightning but I'll use my android for now if I can get past the kbps.

Hemp or 325x for rock, EDM and rap?
It's very hard to say. They are 99% the same in sound. Maybe not 99%, but very close. The biggest difference would be the cup material: metal vs wood (sort of). Hemp is a little softer sound, when 325x is slightly harsher.
I prefer Hemp because it has some magic in the way it looks and feels in your hands.

Why K1000? Are they hard to drive or something?
The AKG K1000 needs to be hooked up to a speaker amp, needs a few quality watts per channel. It probably sounds great on this EAR V10 amp….

Am I looking correctly? It's 12 Aussie thousand dollars.

Yeah, it took me a few seconds because the number looked so reasonable. Oh, dollars! :D
