I had some round cut velour lying around I covered the driver with to tame the highs and also keep that pesky dust out I lose some of that lightning sharp treble but the sub bass is really brought up and rock music on this thing is just killer and so natural and it actually slams. I feel like I’m right there in the studio with Dire Straits :)

i use the I-cushions made for the i/e-Grado to cover the speaker grills, and in my opinion they have the best sonic damping properties of the Grado cushions. i use them to cover the drivers while using the G, L and F pads. adds comfort and sounds better.

I started on the 80 ten years ago, I had them for ten years. I also used a friend's 80i a lot. Back then I had bad quality music and tried to EQ rich sound that didn't happen - now "hi res" on YouTube sounds amazing comparably and it's not even hi res. I don't even want to EQ it so I'm smacking myself for not realizing their full potential back then. I got the 80x and ms1 a week ago and I'm lost on how to use it portably offline (probably going to get tidal). Someone recommended velvet sheepskin pads. I need to figure out which phone I'll use, a 16gb 5S that I love or an android with a 64gb SD card. I don't know which cheap DAC (under $100) to get until I pick a phone but the suggestions were a c31993 Abigail or a $40 DSD. I bought a type C apple dongle yesterday but didn't realize it's not for micro usb. I just want to walk my dog with 16-32 bit classic rock, offline. I was going to get the 325x but I opted for two cheaper pairs (girlfriend) and a wire splitter and a 1080 projector because I'm in an apartment and can't have speakers. If someone wants to talk me into spending about $450 CAD on the 325x I'm all ears because my girlfriend likes the 80x a lot more than the ms1. The ms1 doesn't have the same magic as the 80x, it's not even close but they were only $40.

Fiio M6 is a good pocket DAP, much smaller than a typical phone and can drive Grados just fine. I often use mine with my SR60e when I'm working at home.

I've not use my GH1 much because I didn't have a suitable tube amp to drive it in the past. Then the itch to get more into Grado make me buy the 325x and the hunt is on for a suitable tube amp to drive Grados.

I consider this setup of Yggdrasil > McChanson 6y6g amp > 325x / GH1 budget but by George, using Tidal, it's audiophile quality at it's best.

I can hear the differences between GH1 and 325x and I appreciate the differences. 325x has more midbass and more body to the tone. GH1 is tighter and leaner by comparion. I enjoy both Grado models but I have been using the 325x more for the last week since I bought it.

The Woo Audio WA6 (Gen 2 modified with 6DE7 sockets) has been a fantastic partner to my Grado Collection. I normally roll 12A*7 via adapters. Sometimes 6SN7s

How comfy are the 325 stock pads? My S pads are comfy, just without isolation.

I'm getting used to the F stock pads with each passing day. Perhaps for a few hours then I need a break. Then I go back to the comfortable Susvara. The fact that I can go back and fro between the 325x and Susvara shows the level of enjoyment I get out of the 325x.

I find the cable a bit short for my purpose so I bought a 6.3mm extension cable and it does the job.

I didn't know what a susvara was so I read a review and now I'm surprised you use the 325x. Isn't that like having a Bugatti and jumping into a Mustang?

Yes but the Mustang runs just as fast. Like a wild stallion. :relaxed:
