Five years ago, I bought the SR325E, and I really enjoy them. Since then I have purchased the RS1e, GW100x, SR325x (twice), and the RS1x. I have returned them all (except for the RS1x which I just received this week). I think I might be done.
hey all, what would be the most neutral grados? I wanted something to listen to solo piano and some solo violin. I have a Rs1e, it sounds perfect for acoustic guitar but not so much piano. other headphones I own are akg k812 (huge soundstage, great for orcchestral pieces, not for solo as much), lcd-2 (too warm and not enough detail), Stax L300 (too clean, reveling of bad sources). I love grados and how forward they are which makes them great for solo instruments, but I need one this time that gets away from the traditional grado sound into much more neutral territory. sr200, sr325x or maybe something from the ps series?

If you could locate a PS500 or PS500e (they are discontinued) it well might click all the boxes. (No plans for a replacement model on the PS series).
The current RS2x when broken in might fit your needs. It tends to mellow a bit with time and the bass becomes more defined with good detail.
That’s my two cents.
Good luck with the quest.
PS My final thought is that in my opinion the MOST neutral would be the Joseph Grado Signature HP1000 series. Joe Grado designed them to be as neutral as possible since he intended to use them to test some custom microphones. Price depending on condition can be pretty expensive.
