What sort of mumble jumble is this?? none of the K/Q70X products are made in China!! All of them are made in Austria! As well as AKG K601, K242 HD, K272 HD, K142 HD!

It says on headphones (K242 HD) AND on the box itself!.. that they are made in Austria! This cannot be an act of marketing since the exact place of origin has to be stated due to taxation and stuff like that! I am not sure if it is an older model.. but I am pretty sure its made in Austria! Same goes for the other models I mentioned. The store which sells them in my country.. has those models.. and I checked all boxes myself. All of them are made in austria!
 
As for the point he was trying to make.. I completely agree with it. Harman completely messed up AKG! I even have a thread about this!

If you click on that link and watch the video, it clearly shows on the box "Designed and Engineered in Austria by AKG", followed by "Made in China (P.R.C.)"
 
Unless AKG also has one of those marketing methods like Japan, where Made in Japan electronics (or Made in Austria in AKG's case) are only sold in Japan (and in parts of Europe in AKG's case). Though as long as the parts used are identical (unlike Japanese televisions, cameras, etc.) there shouldn't be much difference in quality... Made in China can be amazing; depends on how strict the quality control the company wants to keep.

Come on mikiphile. hifiguy bought that recently, and since it's "discontinued" in the NA and he bought it direct from Harman, most probably that's the latest batch from the production line or something.

Heck, I hear people talking crap about made in China stuff in favor of stuff made in Vietnam, Bangladesh, etc... really, when company wants good QC, they're all about the same. Then you see a pair of Italian boots that fails hard on workmanship placed right beside Chinese ones, and people still buy the Italian one. Difference? Made (badly) in Italy is more expensive.
 
P.S. not saying anything against any country, just that the country of origin doesn't mean as much today as maybe 10 years ago.

Fiio is probably the most successful headphone amplifier maker and they're 100% chinese. Designed, manufactured and sold in China. And before you say "big company =/= good company", remember they serve a small and very informed market, and if their products weren't good price-quality ratios, we wouldn't get them.
