I really like these headphones. It's too bad AKG stopped making them.
Would have liked to try a pair, but I think (in the US, at least), AKG's marketing as a "mass market" brand didn't work too well, and people familiar with AKG went for their studio headphones like the K240 or K701/K702/Q701. If I recall correctly, the K240 and the K242HD's were similarly priced (the K242HD might have even been more expensive?).
Actually the K240 is the more expensive ones. From reading around, the K240 has included pleather and velour pads, and a spare cable too. That raised the price compared to the K242HD.
HiFiGuy528.
Still waiting on an in-depth review on the K242HD.
Please tell what your using to drive the K242HD.
I received my K242HD three days ago, they have great mids and they really seem to do well with music.
I paid $107 (Thomann) for mine 8 days ago, they are now $109.
I'm guessing here in the USA, AKG does not want the K242HDs taking sales away from the K240MKII.
Part of me would like to see a K242HD changed from 62-Ohm to a 250-Ohms model.
That's $70 less than mine.![]()
I bought 2x K242HD and 1x K142HD for le girlfriend. paid $60 for shipping, and then tax on top of that and still got it all for half the local price.
Big orders works
PurpleAngel how does it compare to your K240M?
The K240M Monitor 600-Ohm has a nice clarity, very real.
I think the K242HD is a little warmer?
I just upgraded my Essence STX a few hours ago with three AD797BR op-amps, only tested with K242HDs so far.
It's 1:00 AM, too tired to hook up the K240M, going to walk two feet to my bed and crash.
