Focal Utopia General Discussion

To be honest joking aside I'm well happy with my utopias and it's my ears that are gonna do the listening not someone else
exactly, it doesn't matter if any or everyone says a product is garbage (which I haven't, just said that the jury is out), so long as the (potential) owner likes said product, that is all that matters.

I probably wouldn't have bought my Master 1s if going on reviews and opinions only.

I just got my custom Elear cable from a company, https://customcans.co.uk/

I haven't heard many people using them to get their balanced or shorter cables.  It took almost a month to get the cable from europe, but I am pretty pleased w/ the craftsmanship esp considering they're so cheap.  The braid is flat and thicker than the alternatives I saw at this price.

Have someone ever compared the utopia with copper and silver cables? Is there any considerable differences?
I want to upgrade to a balanced cable better than the standard one, and really don't know the better choice
I'm using a violectric 281 and a chord 2qute

What would be a $1000 amp to pair with the Utopia?

The MicroZotl2 is a fantastic headphone amp that pairs very well with the Utopias. The base unit is $1200.

When you feel like it, you can also upgrade the power supply to make it even better.

The MZ2 is very clear and transparent, so (IMO) it matches very well with the quality of the Utopias, which are also clear and transparent.

Curious if anyone here uses the WA8 Eclipse with their Utopia?

I do have the WA8 Eclipse and used with my Utopia review in my sig below. However recently I've gotten balanced cables and have been using the Utopia with NW-WM1Z DAP instead.

What would you like to know about the WA8 and Utopia?

I've read that the Utopia WA8 synergy is very good...I'm trying to figure out which way to go with an amp to compliment my Utopia's.

Anak, comparing 1Z balance driving the Utopia to 1Z--WA8--Utopia, what are the differences? Thanks.

Let me get back to you later today. Bear in mind though won't be just different Amp/source driving the Utopias but different cables too. I don't have a 4.4mm - 3.5/6.3 made up yet.

Wouldn't you just go from 1Z SE out to WA8 since WA8 does not have balance?

To me, quite specifically to the NW-WM1Z, the Utopia needs balanced.

It's not so much of the Utopia needing balanced as the NW-WM1Z's somewhat disappointing 3.5mm implementation (IMHO anyway)

The WM1Z is totally and completely built and designed to be used primarily with their new pentaconn balanced connection. You're essentially wasting half the hardware if you use SE because they split and separated the circuitry to improve the balanced performance.
