[FiiO M3K] Probably the Most Cost-Effective Hi-Res Music Player, Discrete HiFi DAC Chip, Supports up to 384K/32B

I wanted to buy one as a digital transport for a Fiio Q1 MkII (or K3), but gadgetexplained (http://www.gadgetexplained.com/2018/09/fiio-m3k-hi-res-digital-audio-player.html) says this:

"While the FiiO M3K has USB audio out function, it cannot be used as a digital transport for an external DAC."

Can someone explain this? Can I or can I not use it with the Q1mkII for my HD58X?
Dear friend,

No, the M3K doesn't have usb audio output function. But it supports file transfers with USB OTG-compatible devices if connected by an USB OTG cable.

Best regards

I promised to compare it to the Shanling M0. Well it is hard to do so. The Shanling sounds better with my Fiio earphones but worse with the IBASSO IT01 IMO.
The battery life on the Shanling is twice worse.
The controls are okyish once you get that you have to touch it VERY BRIEFLY to get a reaction or a swipe UNLIKE on a smartphone. It feels premium but is too fragile. No proper silicone case, any drop may be fatal. The Bluetooth antenna on the M0 is weak. Think of it as an IR port. If the Fiio BTR3 is in my pocket forget about proper LDAC or Aptx playback, only aac and sbc don't cut and you still should not be more than a meter away. If they see and touch and kiss each other everything is fine, though. I think I will use it for my bookshelf Edifier speakers.
Also why on earth is headphone jack which doesn't support headphones with mic still a thing? I cannot constantly change the MMCX cables, the earphones start to mute. The M3K shines here.

So final verdict I prefer the FIIO M3K. Feels more robust, has a proper silicone case, easier to operate, bigger easier to read screen, cheaper, it can survive a weekend getaway without the need for a recharge, the Shanling could leave you without music for the last few hours of the weekend.

I just successfully updated mine. I am anxious to play with some custom EQ setttings later on.

Also, I am very happy that Fiio added on the update to "confirm dialog for powering off when holding the power button", as lately mine has been acting very strange in this regard. Many times when I have gone to change albums or adjust the volume, when I quickly hit the power button to turn off the display, it would power down the unit and it was very frustrating. And no, I was not holding the button down too long.

Thank you Fiio!!

Custom equalizer doesn't affect the loudness of the songs like before. Just changes the frequency response like it's supposed to.

Quick newbie question on firmware update. I have a 32gb mini sd card ready to use so I will format it in player but Im not sure what part of the card I drag the update to? Would it be the same place I drag music files to when Im inputting them into the M3K? Thanks
