Amp8 costs $200, When you buy the dap it comes with amp1mkii. Most, including myself, have found the stock amp to be more than adequate.

It depends of many factors, hardware related but also with the recording and with some genres of music it may be more bothersome - and ultimately and not least important, the person that is listening - if you're under 25 you'll hear everything up to 16 kHz, if you're +50 you'll be lucky to hear without much cut between 13 and 15 kHz - on top of this there is what your brain says "I accept it", "I even like it", or "I can´t live with this". Over time and with age (I'm a youngster at 54) you get more tolerant, you don't focus on hiss but on music, like listening vinyl records. Hiss is not a problem for me with AMP9 although I can hear it on some tracks, not happening with AMP1mk2 ... which is collecting dust...

ps: prima prova il dx220 in versione base. puó essere che rimarrai contento
