The one thing that I don't like about this review is that he used a FiiO X5...

Actually virtually all of it was done with a NFB-12 feeding a LD MKIV, I only used the X5 toward the end to see if it would drive both, and how much of a difference there was.  Do you have something against the X5?

Brooko,
Thanks for review, I will follow your step by keep my HD600...

Last week I visited one stand in HiFi exhibition, tried some hi-end cans; HD700, HD800, T1, Audeze, Ultrasone 8 Romeo...they delivered wow sound
When I back to my home, and listened smoothjazz through my HD600....I still in love with the HD600 sound.
For me , no need upgrade the headphone but probably upgrade to better desktop amp

I have a pair of HD600s and just ordered a pair of HD700s as I saw them at a good price. Then I saw this article. I hope I'm not going to regret the purchase of the HD700s

The HD700s are a great headphone - so don't sweat it.  The choice for me was which two headphones of the DT880, HD600, HD700 and T1 to keep.  I kept the T1 and HD600 - which were the right choices for me. Others will be different.  I still rate the HD700 well - just not at the RRP

Well that's a relief. I bought the hd700s at a substantial discount (~ 40% off RRP). They arrive today so I'm looking forward to giving them a run in

The HD700 make any source/amp sound good, but they are all about pairing to be outstanding. They like a little warmth or tubiness to the SQ to shine their brightest. My best pairings are with my X5, GO720, and Beresford Caiman - or through anything using my C&C BH2 amp. Bright sources sound bright.

For any who are interested, I finished my T1 vs HD800 comparison last night.  2nd post below it looks at HD600 vs HD800.  Thanks again to Rizki for making it all possible.

Unfortunately not in a position to comment on that - but it would be interesting (especially the difference in speed/decay).  I know when I first decided on the HD600, I spent around 30 minutes comparing the 650 and 600.  The HD600 won me over by its natural presentation - still does today.

Thanks - that would be a very interesting comparison looking at the graphs!

Kind of a "Zombie" thread but I ran into some HD700s for sale and came to the obvious place for some reviews/comparisons. Before even seeing this graph, the descriptions I read regarding the 700 vs the 600 sounded very much like differences between the 600 and 650.

Granted, there was more talk of the 700s treble but that wasn't always positive. As far as a preference between the 600s and 650s, mine runs the opposite of Brooko's. I've owned both at the same time and was loath to sell the 600s but was broke so one pair had to go, at least temporarily.

I do regret selling them because it turned out that the money shortage wasn't that serious. I wouldn't exchange them for my 650s but there are some recordings where the 600s presentation would be preferable...just not most of the time for me personally,

I appreciate the great review Brooko as reading it was very informative and helpful. I'll save my money for now and keep enjoying my HD650s. Running them balanced with a silver/gold aftermarket cable leaves me wanting little while listening.

Regardless, I'll admit to once in awhile getting bit by the "headphone bug". In fact It bit me bad enough two days ago that I replied to an ad for some mint HD600s for $280 (CAD). I wanted to re-ad them to my set-up for variety's sake as we3ll as those times when they are preferable...somebody else beat me to the punch

What I've determined from reading this review is that I'd rather own both the 650 and 600 than the 700 on it's own. As a bonus, both 6XXs together cost less than the 700 so I better not listen to them, just in case...

Thanks for the kind words.  Pleased the comparison is able to help. If you get the chance to listen to the HD700s, IMO they are still worth considering - at least demoing.

Great comfort, and quite special with some genres. Unfortunately they have been given a bad rap due to their uneven treble - but it never really bothered me most of the time, and I do still miss them occasionally. Fortunately for me (at the moment) the T1 and HD600 have proven to be a perfect pairing - and really speaking all I'll need for the immediate future anyway.

It wouldn't be one I'd probably recommend -  a little too coloured for monitoring purposes maybe?
