Campfire - Solaris

I have the Off the Wall album in 24 bit Flac and the track I used for reference was Get On the Floor. Nasally mids make him sound vaguely like he has a cold. It's subtle and it wasn't until I heard this song on the SE Solaris that I really understood what it meant.

I can't really give any specifics because it was too long ago, but I remember thinking "nasal vocals" too when I compared it to the Andromeda S. Not a lot, but enough to make me notice.

Compare with Elear, using DX229, Yes I slightly noticed there's a different male sounding... Quite difficult to distinguish... using MJ - Billie Jean

will try with other DAP and IEM to compare...

After a couple days stranded at a friends house waiting for a storm to subside I found my self little more to do to kill the time than a/b my VX with the Solaris SE. The VX still edges it on detail and perhaps overall vividness and raw technical prowess, but the Solaris wins on natural tonality 3-d holographic stage, a robust and forward mid-range, more natural instrumental timbre and, most importantly, emotional engagement. In all the IEMs I've tried this year none have rendered vocals or drawn me into the music as well as the Solaris SE. This hobby is a never ending journey and I'm quite happy where I'm at right now. Of the myriad IEMs I've demoed and owned this year the SE Solaris unequivocally takes the crown (relative to my own tastes and preferences etc. etc.) I'll probably put together a more detailed write up later, but right now I'm just enjoying the music.

All these picture of the SE version and comparison got me feeling like I need to join this band wagon. However I have other plans, got the Alo Copper 22 and pure silver in so I've been cable rolling.20191223_185340.jpg

Hi all,

After having listened to the Solaris SE for a few more dozens of hours, I must say I'm still enthusiastic about them!

Compared to the original Solaris, the mids are definitely smoother (or, indeed, less "nasal", as someone wrote), that (which was already my initial impression) is definitely confirmed. The bass are also more "under control", I would say. All in all, I would say that they still sound very similar to the original Solaris, but are definitely a bit more "refined".

However, I would not agree with Lookout57, who wrote that they (Solaris SE) are actually very similar to the Andromeda Gold (which I also own). The difference lies mainly with the bass - I would say that Andromeda Gold provides more bass (in terms of quantity, of presence), and that Solaris SE are definitely more "under control" and more refined.

FYI, I made this statement based on memory and did some casual listening to the Andromeda Gold yesterday.

Yes the bass is different, but to me the Solaris SE bass has more warmth (depth / impact) than the AG which has a more bass details. I am planning on doing more comparisons over the holidays like I did for my Solaris and Solaris SE comparison.

Hi, long time lurker here, just got my Solaris from black-friday deals. Burning in now for almost 40hours. They're keep getting better. Like others said, tip selection is the most important, right now I'm torn between final e tips and Symbio-W peeled.

Btw, anyone ever tried pwaudio silver gold with Solaris?

The pw audio Loki+ is really something special with the Solaris, can’t comment about the gold though

Interesting that you feel like this (that the AG has more bass details)... I must say my own comment was actually based more on memory than on actual a/b-ing, as I had been listening almost every day to the Andromeda Gold in the 2 or 3 weeks before receiving the Solaris SE but have not taken the time yet to really sit and compare both. I should do exactly that and see

I feel that my pair is also /changing/getting better with further use and I must have less than 20 hours on them.

I will be receiving my custom tips in about three weeks, which will result in a further improvement. What’s the consensus on here on the need for a cable upgrade?

Any recommendations? It seems that the PW Audio Loki+ and ALO Gold 16 4.4mm Balanced are quite well liked.

I am looking for a balanced cable to use with my Cayin N6ii.

As long as I'm still around, the only consensus there can be is that no cable "upgrade" is needed... ever.

:)

That's what I thought as well, smokey would look amazing with this gem of an IEM. Especially with my black metallic custom tips.

Do you have the link for the one you got?
