Beyerdynamic T90 Discussion and Support Thread

Has anyone tried pad rolling on the T90's. The pads on my T90's have become quite deformed and before I contact beyerdynamic to order some replacements I was wondering if anyone had any experience with other pads.
Brainwavz pads are 30% off at the moment so if anyone has any experience with them I would love to hear it, otherwise I was thinking some kind of angled pad like the Hifiman focus pads but I can't be sure about the sound and don't have the money at the moment to buy multiple pairs of more expensive pads. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I reckon that the Shure SRH1840 pads are well worth a try, very soft and comfortable and not too thick. They are oval shaped which is a benefit as you get a better seal around the ears but they still leak a lot of sound which they are designed to. I paid 16 Pounds on Amazon UK with prime. They are very well made and easy to fit. I also use them on the Fostex RP40 m2 series.

I have the Beyer T70p (32 ohm) closed back, now used with Shure SRH1840 pads, previously used with Beyer DT770 pads (have also tried Shure SRH1540 pads and Beyer Amiron pads and Beyer DT1770 pads)

I have previously had the Beyer DT1990, Beyer T70 and Beyer T1.2 so I feel well experienced to give a considered opinion.

However I have never tried the T90 but the Shure pads should fit.

Thanks for that. I used to have a set of them back when I owned T40rp's but may have to order in another set for my T90's. I have also been eyeing the Dekoni Choice Suede earpads if anyone has any experience with them.

Thanks

Just to update

I have note received my SRH1840 pads however, I have received my set of Dekoni Choice Suede pads.

My impressions after a few days with these pads are as follows
1. Better seal, better bass. Bass solidifies and is slightly stronger and deeper.
2. Treble. These pads slightly reduce the treble bump on the T90's that some people dislike. Still detailed and very present but it is harder to achieve sibilance
3.Slightly reduced soundstage but still spacious with pinpoint imaging

All the above add to the T90 being a thoroughly entertaining headphone that you just want to turn up and enjoy. I also have started using these more on my solid state amps since the pad change, presumably due to the slightly reduced treble.

If you want to reduce the treble a bit but don’t want to EQ to deteriorate the sound, here is a cheap way to do it. I put a sheet of tissue inside and it does reduce a bit treble, two sheets may be too much though. It’s a trade off, you do lose some air in treble but easier for long time listening.

To remove the black ring, use the screwdriver to press “tab 2” first which is the smallest tab, then press “tab 4” and it should be loose.

Are there any directions for disassembling the headband slider for the T70 & T90?

Be careful, you may need the replacement parts, I assume the plastic clips will be broken after disassembling and I will not try it unless I have those clip parts. If you want to replace the head band cushion only, you can do it without disassembling.

Still rocking these headphones 5 years later - with the Brainwavz angled velour pads. Just ordered the Shure HPAEC1540 pads from Amazon to see what they are all about. I absolutely love the T90's still through the Bifrost I Multibit and Burson Soloist MkII - has anyone gone from the T90 to the T1.2's? Getting the ugprade itch and just curious.

My 3 years experience with T90, T1.2 and Beyer A2/ Icon audio HP8mk2 amp, you should keep T90, it is truly special. It doesn't mean T1.2 is bad, just different tuning, I love both.
If you step up to T1.2, perhaps you need to upgarde amp (tube amp) and dac to let T1.2 shine, it may cost you a lot more. I switch T90 and T1.2 regularly for different kind of music:
T90 - Orchestra, classical, live concert, rock, movie.
T1.2 - Jazz, vocal, mellow, old recording.

I have Dekoni Audio Elite Velour earpad installed on T90, this earpad does refine the treble over the original pads.

Thanks for the feedback from someone that owns both. I really love the T90 - never had an issue with the treble, I think they just happen to pair well with the DAC and Amp I have. I listen to mostly beat driven indie pop, indie rock, some classic rock and some electronic. Sometimes I use my JVC's in my sig when I really want to crank up the bass but usually it's Tidal Hi-Fi with the T90. I'll be getting the Shure pads tomorrow just to try something different with the T90 without spending much money.
