I have DT 48 & 480. Both are 200 ohm. DT 480 has gotten more eartime mostly because it has better comfort (DT 150 earpads) and bass extension. I seem to have extreme difficulties at getting proper seal with DT 48. It starts to roll-off maybe at 100 hz. But still they both have extremely good impulse response. Both headphones are very good compared to my AQ Nighthawk and Hifiman HE500.

To hasmac: How do you think both your DT 48´s compares to rest of your Beyers?

My currant collection of Beyers. As well as these I've also owned the 880, T90 and 1770, but the best Beyers I have ever heard are my 1990's, they have the typical Beyer "house sound" but with the highs just smoothed and dialled down a tad, wonderfully clear detailed resolving and very enjoyable, and with the B pads great bass as well.

The seal is important, I never got a good seal with the stock Beyer pads either. I use 70x80mm on-ear pads mounted via DIY 3D printed pad plates ( https://www.tinkercad.com/things/fyQmuWijsKW ).
I use them a lot, maybe 3rd most used after the T70 and 770. They match the T70 for overall sound quality and detail, very critical, but still musical. Uncomfortable after an hour though. Mine are both 25ohm, both sound exactly the same, and they're the ones most likely to show up a noisy amp or source. I find that level of detail quite addictive (hence the Sony DR-Z5&6 elsewhere in my collection).
After that it's the 990. Nothing else I've got matches the 990 for bass, not that the 990 as bad at detail, just the bass can be distracting.
Then the Custom Studio, which to be honest I find flat and unengaging, wherever the port setting is at.
The 440/441 were a bit of vintage chrome for show on the shelf with the stereo, but they do sound really good. For some reason I find my particular 441 very engaging, good soundstage, detail, and the bass is very tight.
The 220's were for messing around, nothing serious there.

I've been listening to my Beyerdynamic T70 today and I gotta say..the T70 is definitely my 3rd favourite/best headphone i've ever owned.
I have T5P earpads on my T70 which makes the sound signature more neutral but even with the stock earpads, the T70 would probably be my 5th favourite/best.
I now prefer them to the T5P which i've owned and the only other 2 I've owned and liked more than the T70 is the Denon AH-D5000 and AKG K702.
Just like the AH-D5000 and AKG K702, the T70 is a classic imo.

Hey all.

Current user and lover of the DT770 80Ohm here. Have previously had the 880 600Ohm and 990 250Ohm. I am hoping to try the 1770 and 1990 at some point as feel one of those will be a great fit for me. I would have them both, but I am not ready to be castrated.

Sounds paiful! Lol. All great cans, have owned or own all of the above but the 1770 and 1990 are a definite step up in sound and quality, especially 1990, they are worth getting but defo not worth getting castrated for!.

I've been spending time with my two newly acquired Beyers, a DT 831(250 Ohm, dual entry cable) and an DT 480 - 8 Ohm. The DT 831 is a very comfortable closed-back with a leaner sound but has bass slam and dynamic punch when called for and is a softer sounding headphone overall, not harsh or peaky at all. The DT 480 - 8 Ohm is something special when modded, insane dynamics, detail, and clarity, my best headphone sonically to my ears but uncomfortable. Then there is my trusty Amiron Home which I use as my main headphone, super comfortable and a nice warm and refined sound.

I asked Beyerdynamic what was their first model to use computer simulation in its development. They said that DT 831 and 931 were first. I think these models were sold sometime on 90´s. Beyer still produces drivers for these. Those drivers have black damping material between diaphragm and magnet. I have one pair which i´m going to use on DIY headphones.

That's an interesting piece of information. I have the box and I can confirm they were sold during the late 1990's and likely the early 2000's.

DT1770.jpeg

Got back into Beyerdynamics with the recent aquisition of DT 1770 Pro (250 ohm). Prior to that I had the DT 880 Premiums (600ohm) that I sold when I ventured into Grados. A regrettable move as I wasn't really fully informed about headphones at the time and didn't have anything that would drive them properly (was using an Audioengine D1 dac LOL). These complement my Grado RS2es nicely, have a balanced sound and smoother treble. Nice to listen too for hours. The RS2e offer clarity, imaging and detail, but can get a little fatiguing. So far, the DT 1770s are driven nicely from the Magni 3, but looking to try the Valhalla 2 soon.

Can you provide more details on how they all compare to each other if possible? Moreso the HE-500 vs the oldie goldies. thx :d
