Just ordered what will be my third set of DT440s !  I could kick myself for selling my last pair as these are overall my favourite set of headphones. Such a perfectly balanced, musical, and airy sound. Will probable replace the 990 pros and Grados in my current lineup. Yon CAN have too many headphones IMO.

These are no longer made having been discontinued, along with the sister model DT660 & 860s, so it really is the last chance to buy the classic and underrated Beyers. Add EDT990VB pads and they are as good as I need really.

Have you had a chance to compare them to the DT660 and DT880?

No sorry only DT990 & DT860 (and DT150) More forgiving and and natural sound than the 860, nicer for long term listening. Smoother in the treble. DT990 vs 440 very close just different Beyer flavours. DT990 technically better I suppose but I just find the DT440 so satisfying with any music. It is the spiritual successor to the much loved DT531 I believe but never became as popular.

Why has this thread died ???

Beyers have had a bit of resurgence recently with the DR1770/1990 and Amiron but this was once the place for all things Beyer.

The great original headphone brand deserves its own thread and this needs resuscitating !!!

I've owned quite a few beyerdynamic headphones (DT 880 Pro 250ohm, DT 990 Pro 250ohm, DT 250 250ohm, DT 800 Premium 600ohm, and DT 1990 Pro 250ohm) and enjoyed every set a great deal. I still own the DT 1990's and DT 250's. The DT 1990's are, without a doubt, my favorite headphone of any I've owned or demo'd. The DT 250's are a great headphone for monitoring. Neither set is going anywhere.

Nevermind I've switched to Sennheiser myself after many years. Cheerio

I agree re the DT-1990.  I've only had it for two weeks, but it's great so far.  Probably one of the best open back headphones I've ever heard.  Extremely revealing but not boring or analytical in the least.  It's musical, dynamic, and accurate in equal measures.

Little restoration job on a pair I picked up for £27. One of the drivers is the original old one, the other is the newer style unfortunately, so I am getting a friend to get me a broken new style driver (I used to work at Beyer's UK distributor so have friends there) and take just the inner driver out and place into the new style insert so both sides are even.

I do not know the impedance, but believe they are 600ohm due to the red on the back of the driver and they are really hard to drive.
I have spent £30 so far, as I had some DT1770 earpads laying around, all the stuff to make a new cable and the new locking rings. All I had to pay for were the headphones and new headband pad.

Took about 20 minutes from this:

So how different is the sound of the DT 880 compared to its siblings? DT 770 e DT 990? I already looked up but everyone says totally different things about these phones, also mine is the PRO version, I DO know there is a difference compared to the premium variant, but how big it is?

DT 990 - 600ohm my favorite headphones by far.

Doesn't the treble bother you?  The treble on mine is pretty offensive most of the time...  :\

Btw, I've read that basically the 990s and the same as the 880s, the grill is pretty much the only difference.  So that said, is there some easy mod to mod the 990s to the 880s?  I'm thinking I might just prefer the 880s to 990s (http://www.head-fi.org/t/109756/rank-the-headphones-that-you-own/5820#post_13431657), so I'm wondering if there could be some way to mod them to make them more friendly?

Checking in with a DT 1990 Pro, DT 1770 Pro, DT 480, and an Amiron Home. All my main headphones are Beyers currently. Sad I don't see this brand not getting much recognition despite their new stuff also being great.

I've owned the most Beyers of any brand with AKG and Sennheiser close behind. But I've had the most satisfaction with Beyers overall. I've actually never owned the most popular audiophile Beyer, the DT 880.
