To my ears identical.

I love them both

I've spent a lot of time over the last couple of days tweaking Rockbox on my Fuze, and I'm just amazed at how good things are sounding. Fuze/Clip + Rockbox: highly recommended as an affordable, great sounding portable setup.

TopPop, how did you tweak your Rockbox? I am thinking about Rockboxing my Clip to mess around with it. Any suggestions/tricks?

Here are my current settings. The equalization is after 2 days of testing with pink noise (off and on, when I wasn't listening to music or doing any other important things

). Everything else is settings from listening to music for the past 2 days. You can probably tell that the settings aren't drastic, but they are just what I needed.

-Bass: 0 dB
-Treble: 2 dB
-Channel configuration: custom (width: 110%)
-Crossfeed: yes (you betcha!)
-Direct gain: 0 dB
-Cross gain:-12 dB
-High-Frequency attenuation: -24 dB
-High-Frequency cutoff: 2000 Hz

EQ settings:
-90 Hz: 1.0 dB
-390 Hz: 0.0 dB
-990 Hz: 0.5 dB
-5000 Hz: 3.0 dB
-13000 Hz: 2.0 dB

-Precut: 0.0 dB
-Dithering: yes
-Timestretch: yes
-Limiter preamp: 0.0 dB

This is as close as I can get to getting a similar sound to my home setup, and it's pretty fantastic. This was the upgrade I was looking for from the RE0! With these slight tweaks, the UM3X has a much wider soundstage, more bass extension, more dynamic range, and is just generally more fun to listen to. And Rockbox went a long way to helping in this upgrade!

Correct me if I'm wrong, did you just compare $30 of equipment with $600 of equipment? That should speak volumes in and of itself.
