Audio Technica ATH-PRO700MK2 review - Take two subwoofers...straight to the head.

Yes, any 90mm will fit the Pro700Mk2, but you also have to consider the ear opening, as you would like it to be circumaural as possible. The stock pads has a 50mm opening.

Alight then. I was trying to avoid bending them, but Ill see how it turns out after I receive them.
If the fit and impact is really shabby then I will end up bending the headband.

On an added note. I cant seem to find any 90mm pads that have a 50mm opening. All the ones I see have a 45 mm opening.
Do you have a suggestion or will the minimal diffrence not be that big of a deal?

There's this ebay seller, Wang Yifei (can't remember if that's his ID) he accepts custom jobs, just tell him what headphone do you have and he'll copy it. I had him do a custom velour pads for my WS55s and it was perfect. He charges about $10 to $20 including shipping.

I love BASS!

So I've spent almost a dozen hours reading reviews, looking at specs and prices.  All headphones I've closely considered are as follows:

Beyerdynamic DT 770-PRO

V-MODA Crossfade LP & LP2

Sony MDR-XB500, MDR-XB700 and MDR-XB1000

Ultrasone PRO-750, PRO-900, HFI-780, HFI-580

Audio-Technica ATH-PRO700MK2

Right now my 2 top pics are the Audio-Technica ATH-PRO700MK2 and secondly Ultrasone HFI-580.  What I really want is awesome BASS!  I love BASS.  I get worm fuzzies from awesome bass.  If I hear amazing bass, I don't think, yeah but those highs could be more defined.  But when I hear amazing clairity, I'm like, where's the F-in bass!?

So, ppl that have heard both what do you think?  One other thing, the Ultrasone HFI-780 with smaller drivers are currently cheaper than the HFI-580 on Amazon, are the HFI-780's better with better or equal bass???

Also, regarding the ear cup pads on the PRO700MK2, has anyone used the Beyerdynamic EDT 770 V or EDT 990 S Replacement Ear Pads?  Those look to be circular and if brand new and tight would probably fit perfectly, better than the DT250/280's which are oval?  An I a genius?

I would love some feedback.

Too big for the PRO700MK2s, they get loose and leak out sounds, therefore losing bass impact. the MK2s have a darker sound, since they were designed for DJs. Might not be for everyone. But, between the PRO700MK2 and the 580s, I would definitely lean more to the PRO700MK2s.

Bohnster, how much can you spend? Because from the headphones listed, you're in doubt between lower end headphones, while you should be in doubt between the Sony XB-1000 and the Ultrasone Pro 900, their bass presence is on a different level.

I wonder if anyone can compare the ANV with the MKII?

The sound seems more solid on the PRO700MK2ANV than the regular MK2s, might be something with the aluminum reinforcement in the cups cancelling vibrations, or just be my ears tingling a bit with all those bass.

alvincapalad, thanks for the response on the ear pads.  I have to believe that there are some circular pads available from someone that would be perfectly interchangeable with the stock ones on the ATH-PRO700MK2.

Roller, I don't totally understand what you are saying...Just that the MDR-XB1000's and Ultrasone PRO 900's are way out classing the lower end models?  I'm thinking that I'll spend around $150.  Which is big reason that I narrowed it down to the 2.  I'm thinking the Audio-Technica's are the way to go.

I'm wondering if I should get 2 different pairs and return the ones I don't like as much.  My gut is telling me to go with the PRO700MK2's.

I used to have a pair of the Sony MDR-V900's until one day I picked them up and they were mysteriously broken.  From what I can tell on here, they didn't have a very good rap, but I though they sounded awesome and between those and a pair of Sennheiser HD-580's, I kept the Sony's.  The HD-580's were insanely clear, but listening to classical on them almost seemed make me nauseous.  I never heard the V900's distort, ever, they handled so much power.

So with the extra background, if there is anymore input that would be splendid.

I liked this elemein's comparison on the XB-500 and the PRO700MK2... http://www.head-fi.org/t/589483/sony-xb500-vs-audio-technica-pro700mk2#post_8041291

You didn't specify your budget, yet you listed both the XB1000 and the Pro 900, therefore one would assume your budget would allow you to get any headphones from that list. And yes, both those headphones are on a different league.

Thanks for your impressions! Do you have more detailed reviews on this headphone? I have yet to see a single review on the ANVs, except that when I ask a seller in China online, he said that the Denon A100 should be quite obviously better than the ANVs even though their prices are similar
