The Doge 6210 appears to be designed for high-impedance headphones.  It was a dial with three options: 60, 300, 600 omhs.  Even at 60 omhs, there is a bit of noise with the W1000.  
 
The noise does not exist in higher-impedance 'phones.  For example, My AKG K501, which is 150 omhs, runs completely clean with it.
 
An, yes, I have rolled tubes and specifically asked for low noise tubes.  This improved, but not solved, the problem.

I've decided these are my next cans as I love my AD900. I've heard this doesn't need to be amped but pairs well with tube amps? Has anyone used the FiiO E7/E9 combo with these?

I always thought they did very well with SS amps. My GLite (dynalo design) does a fantastic job with them. As for running unamped they actually do much better than I thought they would. They are one of the only cans that I can't see me selling at some point.

Oh, duh. Thanks. I'm going to be doing a lot of research before I buy these, hopefully as a Christmas present to me. I just found out I was wearing my AD900s "wrong" though and now the sound is much more "alive" that I've fixed it.

a900s do well with tubes and with ss amps. I don't own a pair at the moment, but would like to again! the headroom...

Any suggestions of how to get replacement pad for my AD2000?  It does not need to be the original, but it must be comfortable and not negatively affect the sounds.
 
AudioCubesII has it at $76.98 shipped, which sounds expensive to me.  Is there any other alternative?

Having only recently added the AD900 to my collection, I would very much like to hear the more expensive ATs. Even with a strong Aussie dollar, these remain an expensive headphone here, unfortunately.

I loved my AD900s before I sold them and got some PRO 900s in search of more bass. I missed the AD900, despite its lack of bass, it's airy, spacious and detailed presentation was amazing. I recently heard the AD2ks at a meet and it's everything I loved about the AD900 but better in every way.The bass is MUCH better than the AD900. It's no bass monster, but it's punchy and very accurate. It's there when it should be, not too little, not too much. I definitely recommend them. Mine should arrive this week

Thanks for the impressions, matthewh33  - I guess the AD900 is more popular in Oz than in the US, where I'm told they are inexplicably scarce. Americans seem to go straight from the AD700 to one of the flagships cans.
