Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread

Quality of amp really does make a big difference. LCD3C is reputedly picky, and for sure the 3F is.

100% agree. The proper amp is critical for the LCD-3's to shine. In my experience the Burson Conductor (at 4W) was very good at driving my LCD-3F's, but then it was replaced (at least in amp duties) by the Bakoon HPA-21, which uses current versus voltage to drive the HP's, so comparing it's wattage is apples-to-oranges. The Bakoon is hyper-resolving and draws you into the music when paired with the LCD-3's.

And in terms of the LCD-3C's versus the LCD-3F's, I found the F's to be as good if not on the bass side of the house. If all you want is bass quantity (and to some very slight degree quality) then I'd go for the LCD-X's. However, if you want a super-engaging experience, then go with a well-amped LCD-3F.

Happy listening!

Hey guys, I've been looking to possibly picking up a LCD3 after I sell my HE560 and LFF Engimas. I was wondering how you think my AudioGD 10.33 would power the 3. It has ~6W@50ohms, 3.3W@100ohms. It also has dual Wolfson chips. I'll keep making my way through the thread!

Quality of amp and decent burn in, mine have changed quite a bit since new, now have 500+ hours and have really opened up.

It was Zebrano, just a mistake
That right I see some lcd3 looking like 2's rosewood and some with a bigger contrast between the colors
Nice looking cans anyway

As well, I think many do in fact prefer tube with the 3. I'm one, and I personally would never mate a warm or syrupy tube amp with an LCD3. As it happens there are a number of "SS-like" tube amps in the sense they don't sound syrupy yet offer other advantages, tuning the sound being the most obvious.

I agree with you 100% here. I have been playing with some different tubes in my little hybrid tube amp and the LCD-3F definitely likes some tubes more than others. Soundstage is one area where tubes excel that is a weak(ish) area for the LCD-3. With the right tubes in the right amp, they can bring a new dimension to the LCD-3.

That's really what I want to know. What is the right amp and the right tubes? I thinking of getting the WA2, WA22, WA5-LE, Liquid Fire or Liquid Glass. I want something that sound warm. So far I think the WA2 would be the warmest combo.

Super Symmetry Balanced Dynalo is awesome too.

Possibly...the new board takes unbalanced in and runs balanced out and works with rails at 20V. I was going to do a dynahi, but don't think I need one after building his. :). I think I still like my KSA5 better though.

I have the older design, balanced in, balanced out, 16.4V rails.
Still, Dynahi was warmer sounding and of course the pure power output is on a whole other level. I still have a couple of boards for the new balanced Dynahi, but that will be on the bench for a LONG time since I absolutely hate doing custom heatsink work...

Cool! My final cased version is 16.3V, but I did run it off the 21V KSA5 PS for a while. I was looking at the balanced dynahi as my next project. So, you think the Dynahi is warmer than balanced dynalo.... I've not heard them side by side, but do prefer warm over neutral. I'm finding the KSA5 quite a bit warmer than the dynalo.
