Then you'll get the itch for better sound....I'd stick with your end game rig.

This. No way I could settle for anything less than the best that I've heard. Hence my amp rolling lately thinking something's really gonna touch the ZDSE. The Luxman got pretty close though-pretty amazing for ss. And lol at LCD2s...

No.  Conductor/LCD-2 approaches PWD2/GS-X mk2/HD800   Even with keeping the LCD-3 the Conductor would be a down grade BUT the desktop space I'd save, the desktop space man :p
Conductor with LCD-2 can approach PWD2/GS-X/HD800? Makes me wonder if my previous M7/M8/LCD-2 will be on par or exceed the GS-X/HD800 combi? :/

Well there is this type of approach
.......................................LCD-2...HD800

and this type approach
.....LCD-2.....................................HD-800

so my point is... well.. .nevermind I don't really have a point here

You want to say that the LCD-2 doesn't come close to the HD-800?

I beg to differ.

The desktop space is priceless so you should be the one to give me... let's say... 5000 $. *fingers crossed* :p

I just think my LCD-3 is closer to my HD800.... where I would prefer one over the other on any given day.
Don't have the LCD-2 and let's just say.... it's a mighty nice headphone for it's time and price but I'd prefer the LCD-3 or the HD800 over it always.

Keep in mind I've never liked the HD800 except on that rig.  Every other time, Audeze please.  The HD800 is just too lifeless and distant on other rigs for me.  Elevator music I believe is what I used to call it :p

Reason will surely win BUT I might be able to find a shallower DAC without dropping.  I would love PS to release the PWD2lite edition.  Lose the Bridge, put it in a NuWave style case... win.  I even considered the Bryston BDA-2 or roll the dice and try the Gungnir.  Was also eyeing the Anedio D2 until everyone parroted that it was thin and bass light.

Still haven't heard it on a synergistic rig then? Darn. Took me a number of tries (and many failures) to get it right. The LCD 2.2s weren't even in the same ballpark sonically at that point either.

Based on what?  Speculations again?   To cure all speculations I suggest getting your hands on the amp so your ears can be the judge.

Hell I'm sure the M7/M8/LCD-2 combo sounds awesome.  IMO the bottle neck on that rig would be the LCD-2s and not the amp or DAC..

A pretty good comparison would be the M7/M8/HD800 vs. PWD2/GS-X mk2/HD800.  I compared every device there except the M8.  IMO the M7/HD800 is a good combo.. For the music I liked the HD800s for.

I'd say the PWD2 and GS-X mk2 work for me but not other rigs.  The Senn distributor tried to talk me out of getting a third because in their opinion how I feel about the HD800 is just the way it is.  Some love it, some hate it.  Just the way it is.

And many others hated it-until they found a proper setup then they loved it. Myself included. Not trying to hammer a point across since it's all subjective anyway-I just really feel that the HD800 is such a sonic chameleon that it really comes down to the rest of the rig. I don't really blame others who don't have the time/$$/patience to make it all come together with this finicky headphone though either.
